A fire Friday afternoon at 772 Holcomb Ave, was started by a
clothes dryer, the Reno Fire Department reported.
The residence was occupied by a woman and her son at the time.
The residents immediately called 9-1-1 and safely evacuated. No
injuries were reported.
The fire caused extensive damage to the back of the residence
and the attached shed with heat and smoke damage throughout the
rest of the house.
“The fire was accidental but serves as a good reminder to
residents to clean the lint from their dryer tray often and to
keep the area in and around the vent pipe clear of any debris or
materials,” Reno Fire Department Investigator Jason O’Neal said
in a statement from the city.
Arriving firefighters were faced with heavy flames to the rear
of the residence. Initial reports advised that a man had entered
the burning home to look for a family pet.
“The first engine arrived with a full crew enabling them to
commence an immediate interior attack from the unburned side of
the structure,” Battalion Chief Todd Keckley said.
“The ladder truck crew began searching the home for any
occupants and provided positive pressure ventilation to support
the efforts of the engine company. The rapid ventilation along
with the immediate interior attack resulted in saving a majority
of the home’s contents.”
The fire department responded at 2:13 p.m. with four structure
engines, one ladder truck, one safety officer, an air support
unit, one battalion chief, and two fire investigators.
The Reno Police Department assisted with traffic control. NV
Energy was also on scene helping fire crews by shutting off gas
and electric services.
