A Sunday weather-related fire that destroyed a KNPB broadcasting
transmitting filter has caused viewers of the television station
outside the Reno area to lose the station’s signal on their
televisions for at least several more days.
Programming Vice President Patricia Miller said Monday that the
filter system destroyed on Red Peak eliminated the broadcast of
KNPB channels for viewers who do not subscribe to Charter Cable
channels, and those who have certain satellite systems.
Miller said the signal was knocked out at 8:38 p.m., Sunday
during the premiere of the station’s new production of “Stewards
of the Rangeland.” A snow and ice storm caused a chemical fire
that did not require the response of the fire department, Miller
       said.
She said the station has ordered a replacement for the filter,
that could take a week or more to obtain. During that time, the
signal will still be lost to certain viewers.
Miller said viewers can see “Stewards of the Rangeland” and
       other programs at www.watchknpb.org.
Thursday is also the start of the station’s Spring Pledge Drive,
which is one its largest fund-raisers. Now, not as many viewers
will be able to see it.
Miller said the out-of-pocket expense to replace the burned
       equipment was not yet known.
