       1968-After discovering smoke pushing from the basement window of
       627 and 629 Radnor Street a passerby ran to Box 123 at Sixth and
       Radnor Streets and pulled the hook.  The time was 8:52 a.m. A
       very heavy smoke condition greeted firemen on arrival. Fire
       reported to have started in basement of 627, possibly from a
       furnace explosion.  Fire ran the vertical partitions to the roof
       and pushed by 30 mph wind gusts traveled through the lofts.
       Eventually all of the huge combination two and three story frame
       row of houses were involved to some extent.  This row was listed
       as:  611-13-15-17-19-21-23-25-27-29-31-33-35-37 Radnor St.
       Fire gutted the houses at 623-25-27-29-31.  623-25 are three
       story, 627-29-31 are two story frame.  Forty occupants were left
       homeless.   Heavy black smoke boiled into the sky over the
       Uptown district.  The two’s were sounded at 9:03 with Fire Chief
       Elmer Shover hitting the general alarm at 9:08 a.m. The fire was
       declared under control at 10:30 a.m.   The weather was clear but
       bitter cold with the thermometer at 15 above zero.  The front of
       the entire row was left covered with ice.  Three alarms plus a
       special call for Lemoyne’s Rescue and Lower Allen’s ladder truck
       were needed.   Overall loss was $100,000.  The row was rebuilt
       and was hit by another spectacular four-alarm fire on August 20,
       2000.  This time the fire started in the first floor front room
       of 627 from a careless smoking, gutting 27 with heavy damage to
       25-23-21 and lesser damage to 615-17-19-29-31.
