Gloria (16): Hey
Max(17): Busy
Gloria: ...
Gloria: Ok, txt me when not busy.
5 hours later.
Gloria: Hey. Still busy?
Max: Yes.
Gloria: ...
Max: I'll text you when I'm not busy
Gloria: Kk.
2 hours later
Max: I'm ready to chat
Gloria: Busy. Chat later.
Max: Ok
7:00 PM
Gloria: Hey. Busy? I'm ready to chat.
Max: Not busy. How was your day?
Gloria: So many pressures, so little fun. How was your day?
Max: A lot of stress. My homework load is strenuous. Church was
good. I have a project due in two weeks.
Gloria: What's Church like? I never go. My parents are atheists,
but I believe in God, just don't go to Church.
Max: Church is very good. I was Baptized into the Church when I
was eight years old. My parents taught me the Scriptures and
Church History by the time I was 7.
Gloria: You never told me this.
Max: We've only been dating a month. You never asked. I did
offer you a Bible and a Book of Mormon that one day, but you
said you weren't interested but you did believe in God. I just
never asked you if you went to Church yet.
Gloria: I think we should talk about this in person, over lunch,
at Carl Jr's.
Max: I agree. We'll meet there tomorrow at noon.
Gloria: See you then.
SCENE 01 CARLS JR'S RESTAURANT-DAY
Max sits at a table, a burger and a fry in front of him. Gloria
walks in. Max stands up.
MAX: What do you want? I'll get it for you.
GLORIA: Same as you. Burger and fries.
Max goes up to the counter. GLORIA waits at the table.
MAX comes back to the table with the food.
They begin to eat after Max prays for the food.
GLORIA: That's different. I never really pray for my food much.
My parents didn't raise me that way.
MAX: (Takes a bite of his food, chews, swallows): What do you
believe about God?
GLORIA: I believe he's loving and accepting and that people call
him by different names but pretty much everyone in the world
except atheists worship him in some way.
MAX: Will you allow me to tell you what the Scriptures say?
GLORIA: Sure.
MAX: Deuteronomy says man shall not lie with man as with women.
Galatians says all who do witchcraft or throw wild parties, or
fornicate, or are sexually immoral, or who spend their time
arguing and striving, etc. shall not enter the kingdom of
heaven. The Doctrine and Covenants says God cannot look upon sin
with the least degree of allowance. Exodus says thou shalt have
no other gods before me, neither shall you make idols, or bow do
to them. Can you say that you understand the implications of
these Scriptures.
GLORIA: If I understand correctly it would mean that almost
everything I just told you about God was wrong except that he is
loving. Right?
MAX: Jesus said, I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one
comes to the Father but by me. He said Broad is the way and wide
is the path that leadeth to destruction and many there be that
go in thereat, and strait is the gate and narrow is the way that
leads to life and few there be that find it.
GLORIA: So you think you are one of the few that has found it.
MAX: I'm open to more than I have known so far because the Lord
has promised us greater things if we accept what he has given us
in this generation.
They finish their food.
MAX: I have a challenge for you. Go to some Bible App on your
smartphone you install and listen to or read John and Romans.
And pray. Prayer is two-way communication with God.
GLORIA: (Smiles) I'll try.
They go out opposite doors after throwing their trash away.
Two days later
Gloria: Hey.
Max: How was your day?
Gloria: Been reading the Bible and the Book of Mormon and the
Doctrine and Covenants on my phone. I'm asking God to help me
understand them. I can't get enough of the Scriptures. Jesus is
my Lord and Savior now. How was your day?
Max: Almost done with my project and I have less homework today.
I've been reading the Book of Mormon today. Would you like to
come to Church with me Sunday?
Gloria: Yes!
Max: See you Sunday.
SCENE 02 RLDS CHURCH-DAY
Gloria talks to Max at the potluck after the service.
GLORIA: That was a wonderful sermon. I want to be Baptized!
MAX: I'm so proud of you! I love you, Gloria.
GLORIA: I love you too Max.
They hug.
