Haha, that was pretty exciting, right?!?!?!
I'm so glad VII is finally get it's long-awaited remake...
       but I think that's the difference. :p
for one, there's an INSANE level of demand for a vii remake that
       has been bubbling for YEARS.
there was some demand for x-3 after they released the remaster,
but they fucked it up by turning most people off with the
supplemental material they came up with.
       sigh. I don't think we'll ever get a X-3.
i think the best we can hope for is that maybe, after they
remake some of the other older games, they'll remake x in
glorious HD. That is my dream. :p

I know, right? VII gets its long-awaited remake...
And what's the next-most popular title in terms of sales and
       fanbases? FFX!
Though I'm very, very divided on whether or not I want X-3 now.
Back before all this audio drama and novella business I would've
given up my left lung for a third sequel. (Did you know how hard
it was; impatiently waiting and clambering for that audio drama
extension; teasing me with Tidus' monologue and thinking it
would be a lovely homage to the characters for their tenth
anniversary, only to have it all crashing down and have my soul
shattered?) If they decide to drop all this sequel-bait, it
might be cowardice on their part, but I'll still be happy
because it'll give them a chance to start X-3 over from scratch
and maybe finally please us fans.
Though you know what I really want as a continuation in the X
series? An extension of X-2, where the Gullwings reunite, Tidus
becomes a member and they go on lots of wacky adventures all
over Spira. It'd give them a nice excuse to explore more of
Spira's history and landmarks. I'd call it Final Fantasy X-2+ or
       something.

I thought FFX-3 had way more of a chance than a FF7 remake so
       it's definitely possible now!

Exactly! And hey, if folks are so deeply opposed to the original
idea for X-3 the developers can always do a prequel game
instead. Auron, Jecht and Braska fans unite 8) ;D

Ehhh not me. A prequel with those three sounds super boring.

Yeah, I love Auron Braska and Jecht, but I feel like we already
know too much of their story through Yuna and Auron's pilgrimage
for it to be exciting! There would no surprises. D: The only
people who would care would be major FFX fans. I think anyone
else would be like "why would I play a game I already know the
       ending too?" haha
If they did a prequel, I think something at Yunalesca and Zaon's
time period would be cool, though. Like, during the war!
maybe Shuyin and Lenne could even be in it. :p

Can I assume you guys didn't play FFVII: Crises Core? I'm not
criticizing, a lot of people didn't despite it's critical
acclaim due to the fact that it was on the PSP.
Crisis Core in my opinion is the best tale out of the
compilation series, second only to the main story of Final
Fantasy VII itself. There is a straightforward approach in the
story telling for this game that was sorely lacking in the other
       installments.
One of the stand out appeals of this game is the fact that side
quests are not designated. Being allowed to pick and chose your
own "Missions" really do shave off a good deal of time that
would other wise force you to perform tedious and (on some
accounts) treacherous battles. For someone who isn't a hard core
gamer this option is a delightful treat. Although, as any Final
Fantasy fan will tell you, neglecting fights will cause you to
lose the opportunity to level up. And make no questions about
it, down the road such decisions will cost you dearly.
The expansion of details regarding old characters is rather
engrossing. Taking what little we knew of Solider First class
Zack Fair from the original game and turning him into a solid
protagonist with hopes, dreams, ambitions, and even love in the
form of our favorite Flower Girl. In the case of Sephiroth, you
actually find yourself having sympathy for (whom we were all
lead to believe for years was) the devil. As for the first time
it's explained how isolated, confused and betrayed he must have
felt by the company that raised him. The establishment of the
origin for Cloud is a well done surprise, stressing his
weaknesses as well as his admiration and friendship with Zack.
Square humanized Mr. Strife again, a factor that caused me to
regain respect for the character, especially after the brooding
hero plastic surgery that was performed on him for Advent
       Children.
The newcomers are equally as welcomed and are introduced and
woven into the scene without being overbearing, complementing
the old fan favorites well. Genesis is slightly obnoxious, but
Angeal will break your heart and you’ll even run into an old
       familiar hidden character!
My point is you know what's waiting for you at the end of this
game but it still tugs at your heart. Any game that can achieve
       that makes it worth wild.

Crisis Core fulfilled a potential for expansion that I don't
believe a prequel with Auron, Braska, and Jecht has. It may have
enough content for a PSvita sized game, but a full scale console
game? No way in hell. The next console game in this series would
either have to be FFX-3 or like kk said, a prequel going 1000
years back that's around the time of the war between Zanarkand
and Bevelle and the creation of Sin. Either of those two could
encompass a vast scope in world and story telling that's
       necessary for such a game.

I believe that with a sequel it needs to be a completely
different experience from its predecessor or, as you all said, a
continuation dating a very long time ahead or behind the
predecessor. Everyone always says that Braska's pilgrimage would
be a good prequel, but really, X tells us a lot about it in both
the main story and the Jecht Spheres. Not to mention there are a
lot of fanfiction about it and in the end, they just go with the
traditional 'sacrifice to save Sin' method like the other
pilgrimages. It's too vanilla and predictable. The 'climax' was
already told to us in Zanarkand and there is just no real reason
why we should have a whole game centred around it.
This is also why I'm not too hot on the supposed X-3's material
despite everything else; it feels like it's going to rehash the
exact same morals, caricatures, atmosphere and development of
the original X. Chuami will probably resolve her father issues
and move past her aggressiveness, just like Tidus. Yuna will
probably be persuaded to not use the Final Aeon again, just like
in the pilgrimage. Tidus and Yuna will probably build up their
relationship again, just like the whole of X's story. It's like
a complicated deja vu machine with added contrivance and drama.
I'm all for seeing FFX's world again, but for goodness' sake, I
       want to see something different.
