!OUTDATED INFORMATION! -- The Novella: Chapter Translations

These translations have not been done by me. Generous members of
the community have dedicated their time and effort to
translating these chapters; as such, these translations are
amateur and there may be mistakes. However, the best attempt at
accuracy was made to ensure comprehensibility. The translator of
the chapter can be identified by their name next to the chapter
number. Please enjoy.

== CHAPTER ONE (unfinished)== (Pixel and Aristoteles)[/center]
Here's my translation, based on what Pixel had already done. I
still need to fix some (or most) of the sentences, but I think
the story is much more clear now.
暗闇の中にティー
ダはいた。膝を抱
えて、とろとろと
していると、突然
頭の芯に映像が結
ばれた。目玉が捕
らえたものか、も
とより記憶の中に
あった光景なのか
判然としない。
Tidus was surrounded by darkness. He held his knees as he
drifted off. Suddenly, an image appeared at the back of his
mind. What caught his eye wasn’t clear. From the start, he was
uncertain whether it was a scene from his memory.
広い背中に長い髪
を垂らした男と、
しなだれかかる細
い女が見えだ。今
はもういない、彼
の両親だ。父親は
ある日姿を消し、
母親は寂しさのあ
まり死んだ。自分
が母親の慰めには
ならないと知って
深く傷ついた日の
胸の痛みが蘇った
。
A man with long hair hanging down his broad back, snuggling with
a beautiful, slender woman. They were his parents, now already
gone. One day his father disappeared, and his mother died of
overwhelming with loneliness. The pain he felt in his heart that
day, knowing that he couldn't console his mother, was revived.
次の瞬間、ティー
ダは大観衆の中に
いた。嬌声に得意
気な笑顔で応える
。心の傷はどうや
って癒やしたのだ
ろう。不思議に思
ったが居心地のよ
さに身を委ねてい
ろうちに、疑問は
どこかに溶けてし
まった。
The next moment, Tidus was in a huge crowd. He responded to the
lovely voices with a proud smile. How could he heal the
emotional scars? It seemed to be able to heal the emotional
scars. He thought it was strange, but as he surrendered his body
to the comfort, that doubt melted away.
巨大な怪物が彼の
街、ザナルカンド
を襲った。怯えて

An enormous monster attacked his city, Zanarkand. He thought it
was strange that he was confused and running away, scared.

Before long, Tidus was swimming in the sea of Spira, and arrived
on land. He was bewildered at how completely different this
world was to home. The kindness of the people, the gentle touch,
he regained his smile somehow. He made friends, and decided to
journey with them. He brandished a sword, and fought against
fiends.
気づくと、恋をし
ていた。気持ちを
確かめ合った日に
、別れが決まって
いたような恋だっ
た。運命とは認め
たくなかったので
抵抗したが、敵わ
なかった。
Then he realised, he was in love. On the day that they confirmed
their feelings for eachother, they realised it was a love that
could never be. He resisted, because he didn't want to accept
their fate, it was unbearable.
雲海が見えた。ス
ピラを去った日の
記憶だ。
I saw a sea of clouds. It’s a memory of the day I left Spira.
自分の背中があっ
た。飛空艇の甲板
を、空元気を振り
まいて走り、飛ん
だ。
He was on his back. The deck of the airship, I summed up the
courage, ran, and leapt.
胸が千切れそうに
痛んだ。
My heart ached like it had been torn out.

boundaries became clear. There was an actual feeling, separate
from the chaos draped in darkness

He felt the boundary approaching overhead. The boundary between
"here" and "there". He could see a flickering wall of light, it
was a symbol of the gorgeous world. Up to the top. He was
swimming more triumphantly than ever.

鼻から肺へ抜けて

Breaking through the wall, it was a world of blue and white. He
winced as he felt the thick air passing through his nose to his
lungs. He had completely forgotten the excitement brought by his
sense of smell.
目の前に広がるの

時、足の下で、何
か巨大なものがう
ごめく気配を感じ

Spread out in front of him was the ocean. As he thought about
the vastness, he felt something huge wriggling under his feet.
The darkness was alive. It hadn't crossed until just then. If he
wasn't careful, he could be pulled back.

振り返ると、ビサ
イド島があった。
初めて見た時と変

小山のよぅに盛り

As he looked around, there was Besaid Island. Just like when he
saw it for the first time, at the centre was a hill that rose
up, like a green triangle. Surrounded by a sandy beach, washed
by waves.
無人の海岸に指笛
を吹いた。
He whistled with his fingers toward the empty beach.
なんの返事もなか
ったが、心が安ら
いだ。五感から流
れ込む情報は、す
べて現実なのだ。
たとえ返事がなく
ても、確実に自分
が体験し、感じて
いることが心地よ
かった。
There was no answer, but his heart felt at ease. The information
gathered from all five senses was entirely real. Even if there
was no reply, from his experience, it was a feeling of comfort.
遠浅の海を、浜に
向かって泳いだ。
最初に会うのは誰
だろう。
He swam in the shallows, facing toward the beach. Who would be
first he saw.

その時、空に轟音
が響いた。
Just then, a deafening roar filled the sky.
空を、紫を基調に
した派手なペイン
トの飛空艇が迫っ
てくる。思わず逃
げた。すると艇は
頭上で旋回しつつ

開いた。
A brightly painted, purple airship approached from the sky. He
unintentionally ran away. As the airship circled overhead, the
hatch at the bottom opened.
待ちかねたように
中からユウナが飛
び出した。
Yuna couldn't wait any longer, and leapt out from the inside.
ハッチを滑り台の
ように使って、そ
のまま勢いよく海
面に飛び降制る。
初めて見る、快活
な服装が意外だっ
た。知っているユ
ウナとは違う、と
、ほんの一瞬、思
った。だが、駆け
てくる彼女の眼中
には自分しかいな

She used the hatch like a slide, and quickly leapt to the
surface of the water. Her cheerful attire was a surprise. It was
the first time he saw it. For just a moment, he thought that she
was different from the Yuna he knew. But, as she ran, the joy in
her eyes that he knew erased that niggling feeling. That moment,
the joy overtook Tidus' heart, ........

"...Are you real?"

After hesitating, Yuna prepared herself, and asked.
「たぶん」
"I think so."
答えは、彼女に出
して欲しかった。
ゆっくりと身体を
離したユウナが、
正解を探している
。いや、間違いを
探しているのだろ
うか。
I wanted to give her an answer. Yuna slowly separated from my
body, and looked for the right answer. Well, she was probably
looking for something wrong.
「どうスか?」
"Do I pass?"
「うん----おかえり

"Uh huh... You're back."
ホッとした。
I was relieved.
「ただいま」
"I am back."
言いながら、ユウ
ナを抱き寄せる。
いや、しがみつい
た。ユウナに否定
されたら、自分は
どうなっていたの
だろうという思い
が、一瞬よぎった
のだ。
As I said that, I drew closer and hugged Yuna. Well, she clung
to me. If Yuna had rejected me, I don’t know how I would have
turned out – I was really worried for a second.
「ただいま」
"I'm home."
耳元で何度も繰り
返すと、やがてユ
ウナの手が腰に回
り、彼女は、おか
えりなさい、と応
えた。
I repeated it a few times in her ear. Before long, Yuna's hand
was around my waist, and she responded with “Welcome home”.
「おーい!」
と、遠い声がした
。「どっか他でや
れ!」
"Hey!" It was a distant voice "Get a room, you two!"

見ると、狭い入り
江は人でいっぱい
だった。ワッカ、
ルールー、そして
大勢の村人たち。
When I looked, the small cove was full of people. Wakka, Lulu,
and many of the villagers.
「邪魔するなっつ
ーの」
“Who asked you to watch, Wakka!?”
ティーダはユウナ
の手を取り、ワッ
カたちの方へ走り
出した。たった今
から、新しい、し
かも、楽しい部分
だけを引き継いだ
人生が始まるのだ
。そう思うと心が
弾んゼ。
Tidus took Yuna's hand and started running toward Wakka. From
right now, I can enjoy only the fun things for my whole life.
Thinking that excites me!
「ていうかさ、な
んか、変わったよ
な」
"You know, you've changed."
「そりゃあいろい
ろありましたから
」
"Well, you've missed a few things."
勿体ぶった答えだ
。だが、彼女の物
語がどんな内容で
あっても、今は笑
顔で手をつなぎ、
走ることができる
ような結末なのだ
。
The answer is pretentious. But, whatever the contents of her
story, now I feel I can smile, take her hand and run with her to
the end.
「聞きたい!」
"I wanna hear everything!"
村人たちが待ちか
まえていたのは、
しばらく村を留守
にしていたユウナ
だった。もちろん
、テーダもごく一
部の顔見知りから
は歓迎された。ダ
ット、レッティ、
ボッツ、ジャッシ

The people of the village had been waiting for Yuna, who had
been away from the village for a while. Of course, Tidus was
greeted by the few people he was familiar to. Datto, Letty,
Botta, Jassu, Keepa... All of the good old Besaid Aurochs.

喜びを分かち合っ
た頃、ワッカが腕
の中の赤ん坊を得
意気に差し出した
。
As we shared the joy of the reunion, Wakka proudly held out a
baby in his arms.
「おれの子だ。イ
ナミ。可愛いだろ

"This is my child. Inami. Cute, ya?"

"Yeah! Hey, what? Who gave birth?”
「わたしだけど」
"I did."
挑むような声が背

A defiant voice answered from behind. When I looked back, the
first thing that caught my eye was a full bosom. It was Lulu.
「やっぱり、美人
だよな」
"Makes sense, he is beautiful."
ふん、とルールー
は鼻で笑い、赤ん
坊をワッカから奪
い取った。
Lulu laughed slightly, and took the baby from Wakka.
潮風に当てるなっ
て言ってるでしょ
?」
“Don’t want him exposed to sea air, huh?”
「島の子だ。どう
せ----」
"He’s an islander. Anyway..."
「潮始めまでは待
つって言ったじゃ
ない」
Lulu: “I can’t say I’m looking forward to the tide starting.”
「だってよぉ----」
"Oh boy..."
まあまあ、とティ
ーダは笑いながら
割って入った。
Now now, Tidus laughed as he butted in.
「とにかく、おめ
でとう。てかさあ
、結局そういうこ
と?
やっぱりくっつい

俺が思ったとおり

"Anyway, congrats. .......You finally got together? I knew it!"
「そうね。あまり
にもありがちで、
時々嫌になるわね

"Yup. Honestly ……it gets difficult sometimes
「おいおい!」
"Hey hey!
「それで?」
ルールーはワッカ
を無視してティー
ダに訊いた。
「しばらくここに
いるわけ?」
"So?"Lulu asked Tidus, ignoring Wakka. "Will you be here for a
while?”
「----できれば、そ

"…I'd like to, if I can."
少し不安になった

He became a little uneasy.
「ああ、誤解しな
いで。もちろん、

"Oh, don't get me wrong. Of course, you are welcome..."

Wrapping the baby up in the blanket, covering his chin, Lulu
joined the people heading to the village. Naturally, her child
was her top priority. Even though he understood it, Tidus felt a
tinge of loneliness.
「おーし、行こう
ぜ」
"Yo, let's go.”
ワッカが明るくテ
ィーダの肩を叩い
た。
Wakka patted Tidus on the shoulder familiarly.
村への道中、オー
ラカたちが入り替
わり立ち替わりで
ティーダに話しか
けてきた。
On the way to the village, the Aurochs talked to Tidus about
being a substitute.
おかげで、不在の
問にチームに起こ
った出来事はずっ
と一緒だったよう
に詳しくなった。
グットやキッパの
上達具合の、自慢
めいた話でさえ我
が事のように喜ば
しく、新人たちが
チームに参加する
ためにビサイド島
に移り住んだ話は
感動的でさえあっ
た。きっかけは、
ティーダが参加し
た、あのトーナメ
ントだったらしい
。
What happened to the team during their time together, was thanks
to him. Gotto and Keepa had improved, which made him proud. New
people had even moved to Besaid Island to join the team, because
they were so impressed. It seemed it was the tournament that
Tidus participated in that started it.
半時間ほどで村に
着いた。
They arrived at the village in around half an hour.
「今日は夕方から
宴会になるはず。
主催は長老たちね
。手伝って、顔を
売っておきなさい
。いい印象をね。
もし休みたかった
ら、あの天幕を使
って」
"We should have a party this evening. The elders will organise
it. You'll help, of course. Win them over. Make a good
impression. If you want to take a rest, you can use that tent."
ルールーは村の中
で一番大きな天幕
を指さした。討伐
隊の宿舎だ。
Lulu pointed to the largest tent in the village. It was the
lodgings that belonged to the crusaders.
「討伐隊の連中は
どうしてる?」
"What are the crusaders up to?
「好きに生きてる
わ。そういう時代
だもの。それから
、ユウナの部屋は
寺院の----前と同じ

"They do whatever they want. It's that kind of era. Then, Yuna's
room in the temple... The same place as before."
「ひゅー!」
"Huh!?"
宴会用らしい薪を
運びながらワッカ
が冷やかした。テ
ィーダは頬がかっ

じた。
Wakka teased him as he carried the firewood for the party. Tidus
felt his cheeks turning red.
「何それ」
ルールーは冷たく
吐き捨てた。
「行くなってこと
よ。誤解を招くよ
うな行動も慎んで
。少なくとも、ユ
ウナがあんたを長
老たちに紹介する
まではダメね。そ
れに、紹介に関係
なく、みんながど
う思うかは、あん
たの言動次第。寺
院が機能しなくな
ってからユウナは
ご隠居たちの、心
の拠り所なんだか
ら。これ、忘れな
いで。ユウナ自身

"Wait." Lulu spat out coldly. "Don’t go there. Refrain from
doing anything wrong. At least until Yuna introduces you to
their elders. Also, regardless of the introduction, what
everyone thinks of you depends on your conduct. After Yuna
retired, After the temple lost its function Yuna has been the
support of the retired [elders?] Don't forget that. Even Yuna
herself can't live freely."

As Tidus said it, Lulu had an expression like she was impressed.

いると息が詰まる

“As far as I see it, 50/50. She felt responsible for what
happened, but she was suffocating in this village. So she flew
around all over with Rikku."
「何してたんだ?」

"Sure, ask her for yourself. Anyway, don’t embarrass Yuna."

カと過ごした。
After Lulu went to her tent, Tidus spent more time with the
Besaid Aurochs
ユウナは寺院の前
、声が届くところ
にいるというのに
話すことができな
い。誰もがユウナ
と話したがり、し
かも、解放しよう
としない。
Yuna was in front of the temple, but he couldn't reach her to
talk to her even though he could hear her voice. Everybody
wanted to talk to Yuna, so he didn’t want to disturb her.
もちろん彼女は何
か理由をつけて席
を外すこともでき
る。だが、そんな
人情のないことは
しな
い。それがユウナ
だ。人の良さは長
所だが、時に----今
399;疎ましい。
Of course, she could also find a reason to excuse herself. But
she wouldn’t do such thing. That’s Yuna. Her kindness is a
strength, but sometimes…now it was unpleasant.

“Cautious... You know, I was one of Yuna’s guardians. I got
results. I’m famous in my own way, am I not to be respected?

When he turned to the voice filled with criticism, Rikku was

As Rikku finished her noisy greeting, she looked back, and
called to someone behind her. She was a woman with a dignified
expression, with slicked back hair on both sides. Her whole body
was covered from top to bottom in black. Compared to Rikku, she
seemed grown up.

ろ、ユウナんと一
緒に活動していた
仲間だよ」
“This is Paine. Here, Yuna and I joined her group.”
「あんたのことは
ユウナから聞いて

“I heard about you from Yuna. So much it started to get
annoying.

Paine watched Tidus in judgement.
「二年ぶりくらい

“It’s been about two years. And yet…”

Rikku stared at Tidus, and put her face close to touching the
tip of his nose.

I wasn’t sure if I should laugh or cry at those words. Without

“I’m talking about appearance. I have the feelin your
personality has changed. Before, you seemed like an idiot/you

I was happy. But I felt I should convey the displeasure of
feeling neglected , and shrugged my shoulders. Then Yuna, oh so
sincerely repeated it. An old woman looked back and forth at
Tidus and Yuna, and furrowed her brow. As Yuna was scolded, I
got impatient. Flustered, she nodded her head several times.

Joined by people speaking harshly, Yuna was told by one of the
old people that she should change her clothes, and led her away
into the temple. Tidus followed Lulu’s advice and helped with
the preparation of the party. However, the whole village helped
and soon there was no more work to do. Eventually, Tidus went
back to Rikku with an ambiguous smile.

He spoke for a while with the three of them. He was told what
has happened “since then” and what Kimahri Ronso’s been up to.
They told him about the Al Bhed Machina Faction, the Youth
League and New Yevon,

became irritated.

Rikku got angry all of a sudden, and told them she was going
back to the airship. Pain asked him to tell Yuna that they were
going back in a few days, and Tidus half-heartedly waved them
off.
忙しげに動き回る
人々の中で感じる
孤独は最悪だ。い

て天幕に逃げ込み

The worst was feeling lonely while being surrounded by people
busily moving around. [...] went into a tent, and went to lie
down. As the sky over the tent became darker as he tossed and
turned, fighting idle thoughts. The party was scheduled after
nightfall. It must be starting soon. Tidus dreamt while holding
the pillow, that Yuna apologetically came to get him.

On the way the Aurochs excitedly said they should play some
blitzball until the boat arrives in the cove. Moreover, Keepa
said they should race to the cove. He did so with a provocative
expression. Tidus agreed, but as he quickly ran down the hill,
the only thing he could only think about Yuna.

「ティーダさん、

“Tidus, you’re slow!”
誰かが叫んだ。
Someone shouted [this].
全力で走っていた
はずだが、気づく
と、後ろにはワッ
カしかいなかった
。
Tidus had run at full speed, but realized only Wakka was behind
him.

転ぶぞ、無茶する

Wakka: “Hey, It’s night already! You’ll fall, don’t be silly!”
「ワッカさん」
ずっと先を行くメ
ンバーが答える。
「棄権してくださ
い。怪我しますよ
」
“Wakka,” Answered a member up ahead. “Please stop. You’ll get
injured.”
うるさいと応える
ワッカの声は笑っ
ていた。
Wakka laughily said they should cut it out
「おまえら、止ま
れ!」
“You guys, stop!” [I think it’s Wakka saying this]
どう足掻いても追
いつけないので、
チームの足を止め
ようとしたらしい
。ワッカの姑息な
作戦
に便乗してティー
ダは速度を落とし
、やがて足を止め
た。
How hard Tidus [ or maybe Wakka] tried, he couldn’t keep up

Wakka shyly scratched his head. The Aurochs were far ahead, they
couldn’t be seen anymore.

While thinking about the lost 2 years, Wakka held his shoulder
hesitantly

cliff. Before long Wakka’s hand moved to his head and he
ruffled Tidus’ hair. It was kind of weird.

Tidus swung his hands wildly.

My bad, I just wanted to check.
本当に済まなそう

Wakka made an apologetic face.
「おまえ、本物な

異界のアレみたい

“Are you real? You’re not an illusion like one you can see at
the farplane?”

“I don’t think so. Of course I’m a real person.”
「だよなぁ!」

ワッカは取り繕う
ように豪快な声を
出して笑った。
Wakka said this with a lively voice and laughed out loud.
だが、ティーダは
"異界のアレ"
のことが気になっ
ていた。

げながら、ワッカ
は駆け出した。
While saying that, Tidus pinched Wakka’s side. While letting out
an unnatural scream, Wakka started running.
