Certainly some of the best coverage of far-right Ukrainian
groups came from Bellingcat, the open-source intelligence
website, which is known for its sympathetic attitude toward
Russian-derived propaganda. Bellingcat's excellent coverage of
this under-largely on Azov, Ukraine's most powerful far-right
group and the one most favored by state largesse. In recent
years, Bellingcat researchers have examined Azov's attempt to
establish contacts with American white nationalists and the
funding he received from the Ukrainian state to provide
"patriotic education" courses and support for demobilized
veterans ; investigated the neo-Nazi black metal festivals
organized by the movement and the support given to the.
Russian neo-Nazi exile group Wotanjugend , an opponent of Putin
and a practitioner of a very marginal form of esoteric Nazism ,
who shares space with Azov in their Kiev headquarters, fights by
his side on the front lines and also translated and disseminated
a Russian version of the Christchurch shooter's manifesto (who
murdered over 50 people in 2019). Unfortunately, Bellingcat's
invaluable coverage of the far-right Ukrainian ecosystem has not
been updated since the start of hostilities, despite the fact
that the war with Russia Telegram Number Data

marked something of a renaissance for
these groups. The Azov movement was founded in 2014 by Andrei
Biletsky , former leader of the Ukrainian neo-Nazi group Patriot
of Ukraine , during the battle for control of Independence
Square, in the center of Kiev, on the occasion of the Maidan
Revolution against the pro-Russian president.

Viktor Yanukovych. In 2010, Biletski proclaimed that Ukraine's
role would one day be "to lead the white races of the world in a
final crusade (...) against the Semitic-led untermenschen
[subhumans]." The revolution and the war that followed would
give him the national stage he had long craved. Along with other
far-right groups, such as Right Sector , the nascent Azov
movement played an external role in the fight against the
Ukrainian security police that left 121 dead and ensured the
success of the revolution. After the Defense Ministry ceded
control of a large property just off Independence Square, the
Azov movement converted the building, now called the Cossack
House, at its headquarters and recruitment center in kyiv.
