Opinion polls conducted by Sesaknin Putin's government continue
to show that a majority of Russians support an invasion of
Ukraine. Yet the ban on the use of the word war shows that
public opinion is under pressure from various forms of power,
including threats of imprisonment for those spreading false news
about the military and mass detentions of street protesters. A
more detailed analysis of the data and other forms of resistance
reveals a broader picture. What has changed in Russian
consciousness? The outbreak of the military conflict in Ukraine
has caused shocks in Russian society.
Even before people recovered they were told that they were
almost unilaterally supporting the war. For example, on the
fourth day of the war, the Russian government-controlled Public
Opinion Research Center issued a report stating that Russians
supported to some extent the decision to launch special military
operations for the Telegram Number Data

war. Only people don't support it. Similar
results have been published by the Public Opinion Foundation,
another large sociological research center, whose contracts are
largely and systematically drawn from the Putin government. The
results of the survey showed that the respondents were not clear
about the purpose of the actions against Russia.

A quarter think the military is protecting the Russian-speaking
population of Donbass. Others believe the purpose of the
operation was to prevent NATO from establishing bases on
Ukrainian soil. of people believe that the operation is to
demilitarize Ukraine. of people think Russia wants to de-Nazify
the country and change its political leanings. of people see the
goal as changing the country's current lack of compassion in the
political system. The last suggested the idea was to divide
Ukraine and take control of the country's southeast.
