Totally agree Walt!
Although getting the elusive sound you want at home and then
getting that sound (or something close) at a live gig- which
often involves a lot of compromises!- are two different
things...!
I think that for the last 30 years or so, the availability of
reasonably priced gear has enabled players to afford quite
easily to get good sounds if they take some time to learn how to
use what they've got- which may not be stuff like genuine USA
Les Pauls, Strats etc with a vintage Fender, Vox or Marshall
amp...etc
These days a good copy guitar and a modern amp with modelling
and effects built in will do the job OK, and won't send you
broke or to the divorce court! :) Used stuff is fine too- I
have a few pawnshop purchases that are really good to play and
sound great.
Whatever gear you use, if you don't do the work and learn and
practice, it will make no difference anyway!

Well-stated!
Nokie has always stated that he's been told that he could get
"tone out of a board."
Whatever he plays always sounds like him. ;D

Newbie here going thru the posts....
As for the gear...............I am reminded of a story of Eddie
Van Halen and Sammy Hagar...in between things...a gig, or a
rehearsal...anyway... Sammy says to Eddie, "Hey, let me play
your rig!"...and Eddie hands him his guitar. Sammy starts
wacking at it and immediately turns to Eddie and say, "No man,
put the settings back the way you had it."...Eddie returns with,
"Those are the settings I was playing on."
Different hands, different tone.

It's about the hands. Not the gear !!!!!!!!
Do you play your guitar like a gorilla peeling a banana, or do
you play it like it's a fine piece of china. It's the fingers
and the touch that make the sounds. Chet Atkins, Nokie Edwards,
Brent Mason, Hank Marvin give them all a listen as they have
many tunes posted and they're playing on different guitars. The
sound may change based on the instrument or amp, but there is no
denying who is playing the tune.
It's about the hands. Not the gear !!!!!!!! Perhaps you need to
change your approach to the instrument and go out and buy some
fine china. Fine china has a resonance just like a musical
instrument.
Lets RESONATE !
