I have a Ventures Virtual Shrine page at
  HTML http://www.planktones.com/PageShrine.html

Click on any of the photos there to find info on Ventures
recordings on various media and Ventures gear including
       demonstrations of the Award Amplifier.
I've also posted several discussions of Ventures LP's domestic
and foreign on youtube (have you ever seen the photo back cover
of the Ventures first album?). Those can be found at the

At 3 seconds and 9 seconds watch the top wave form. You can see
and hear the bass and drums "previewed" before they actually
come in. This is due to print-through on an old master tape. The
last of the three samples does not have the print through. This
suggests that the mastering on the last example was done from a
       better master tape.

       That's whatt thot you meant.
It's intresting that a lot of my original LP from the 60's have
this also, so I wonder if it's really something OTHER than
       printhru?

You'll hear it on every LP in the silent parts just before a
song begins and that is indeed NOT due to the master tape. It is
due to the stylus picking up the "other side" of the groove its
currently in. Crank up your amp when playing an LP and you'll
get a quiet preview of what is about to blast through the
       speakers.
On CD's taken from master tapes, the only time you'll hear it is
if the print through is on the master tape from which the CD was
mfg'd. That is to say any "quiet preview" is not a function of
the CD player. It's usually due to an old master tape or thin
low quality tape stock or both. The example in the video is
       particularly bad.

I don't mind that aspect of LPs either - I usually don't notice.
I do mind the distortion on the CD example, it means that SFM
and One Way didn't use the best master tape.

I talked to the One Way guy @ that time they released CDs.
He didn't even know that some of his "masters" were mono and not
       stereo.
I'll bet Japan still has the "best" masters.

He may not have known but someone in the One Way organization
did. I know that because they make note of it on their Batman
CD. On the back it notes that they deliberately used the mono
master as they could not find a good stereo master. Every other
CD issue of The Ventures Batman (SFM, all Toshiba EMI issues)
use a terribly flawed stereo master. One Way also used the mono
master for "Fabulous Ventures" and as well, other issues of that
CD suffer from a poor stereo master though not nearly as bad as
       the Batman one.
