Hence my asking. It's 2am and I really should be asleep. Would a
more "Hey, your contract just got bought ... you either head
north or you lose your intellectual property rights to Uni the
Unicorn."
Maybe a more comedic take as Uni the Unicorn goes on a 'holiday'
and Edmund the Earth Fluffy comes in to help lead her friends,
with Uni getting cameos in 'snippet' adverts that are designed
to raise awareness of Spaghetti Land: the Theme Park without
actually naming the Park itself, sorta like Movie Teaser
Trailers to get people talking and pumped up before the Park
actually opens....
Fluffy Stallions going "THE FWUCK IS DIS? WHERE UNI GU?" and the
Mares going "Oooooh. He big-big Fwuffy...."

All of those are good ideas. Do them instead. The whole 'the job
or you never work again' bit is to harsh.

It's good to be best pony.
And yes, I did illustrate the Fluffy feats of strength using
Marcus's technique. I think it looks a lot better. Cleaner, more
simple, more fluffy.

Awww, he looks so satisfied.
And yes, Rarity is best pony, along with Applejack.

I told you all there was no ranking; that's why I didn't mention
best chicken pony in that post.
I like the idea of having the angle being softer, maybe just a
stupid move by the board without consulting the team because
they'd assume the team would want the hefty bonus... I dunno,
it's your story, I'm just throwing out ideas seeing how we're
tearing your first one down.
But the stallion replacement bit is awesome.

Thanks for the encouragement, guys - nice to know my writing's
appreciated as well as my art.
And speaking of appreciating writing: Neckbeard, I'm so sorry
for not commenting on your Uni the Unicorn story before! Between
trying to post my giant wall o' text and the whole Derpibooru
fiasco, it slipped my mind until you posted the "sequel". So
delightfully wrong, and could very well be a series in and of
itself, even without the Cleveland connection.
(And I second the replacement stallion idea being awesome.)
And yes, no ranking: we all know that all ponies are best pony.

Okay, last challenge story. It's kind of a mix of different
ideas, but the main inspiration was Vanner's story about the
herd that was slaughtered mercilessly by a group of Fuzzies.
Brutal stuff. I wondered what a fluffy herd would have to do to
win a fight against fuzzies.
I also took a lot of inspiration from Neckbeard's epic story of
Bowser's last stand.
Super sorry about it being 8 pages. I meant to finish this last
night, but it ended up being longer than I expected. Kinda like
every fluffy story I set out to write.
**********************************************************
>You are Rogue, a gray battle-hardened smarty friend.
>Well, battle-hardened as fluffies go, anyway.
>You've never lost a fight against another fluffy.
>You even managed to take on a stray cat once.
>To be exact, you kinda jumped on it with a rusty knife in your
mouth, managing to sink the blade into the cat's throat by luck.
>You knew from experience that knives are very sharp and cut
very easily.
>You had an owner once.
>Some men in blue fluff took him away.
>But not before he took a big knife and cut a huge gash across
your face.
>The scar remains, and it scares many fluffies away.
>That's fine. You're a good fighter, but you really don't enjoy
hurting fluffies.
>Ever since you became a smarty friend, you've felt better for
using your abilities to protect your herd.
>All of the stallions, and a few of the mares, have been taught
how to fight.
>Any herd who knows who you are knows not to mess with you.
>Even Bowser, the biggest and strongest fluffy you've ever seen,
doesn't try to fight you.
>That's fine by you. You'd rather have him as a friend. You'd
never survive a fight against him.
>You're fast and agile, even for a pegasus, but Bowser could
kill you with one stomp.
>But right now, you're not sure where Bowser and his herd are.
>The plan had been for the strongest herds to venture into the
city and find out if Spaghetti Land was real and safe, and then
come back to tell the other herds that had come with you.
>But that was before the invasion.
>More fluffies than you could ever count or even see at once
flooded into the city.
>You're not sure where they all came from.
>They didn't know you or Bowser, so it must have been very far
away.
>They didn't wait, they just entered the city, trying to find
Spaghetti Land before everyone else.
>Stupid, selfish fluffies. Don't they know the only way to
survive is to help each other?
>It quickly turned into chaos.
>All the Humans ran away, except for the ones with the big metal
monsters and the owwie sticks they call guns.
>They've been killing fluffies outside the area with the big
Human places that are so tall.
>The metal monsters roar, and fluffies turn into big owwies.
>Sky monsters fall on the ground and all the fluffies around it
let out all of their booboo juice and take the longest sleep.
>There's no escape.
>Even if Spaghetti Land is real, this Human place called
Cleveland is a trap.
>All around you are the bodies of fluffies.
>Some are still barely breathing, begging for nummies, or for
hugs, some for their friends, their mothers, their babies.
>It's like a big grass field, but there's no grass, only lots
and lots of fluffies, all hurt or dead.
>They're in pain, they can't find enough food, they can't walk
around without stepping in poopies.
>You haven't cried since Daddy Monster cut your face.
>But looking at all of these fluffies dying, you can feel owwie
water in your eyes.
>You and your herd are wandering the city streets, looking for a
way out.
>It's hard, because none of you know where you are going.
>And now you have to be very careful, because there is a new
monster hunting for fluffies.
>They look like fluffies, but they're all white, with blue eyes.
>Their fluff isn't very long, but their bodies are very big.
>They don't talk a lot, but they kill fluffies without any
hesitation.
>Your herd hid as you watched a group of 5 White Fluffy Monsters
killed a herd of 8.
>They would kick hard right in a fluffy's face, then roll the
fluffy over while they were crying about their owwies and put a
hoof on their throat until they stopped moving.
>Sometimes they would just kick and kick until the fluffy was
broken and bleeding to death.
>You even saw one White Fluffy Monster bite a fluffy's throat
and pull until booboo juice came spilling out. The fluffy just
fell over and didn't move.
>The fluffy herd didn't even get a single bite or kick on the
White Fluffy Monsters.
>One member of your herd made scared poopies.
>You didn't get mad. You were scared too.
>Could the White Fluffy Monsters even be hurt? Were they sent by
Humans to kill all the fluffies?
>You didn't dare fight them until you learned more.
>Your herd trusted you, many of them had already died fighting
other herds in Cleveland.
>You're now down to ten fluffies, only three of them mares.
>You have to get out of the city somehow.
>But the White Fluffy Monsters were everywhere, and you know you
won't be able to run without fighting them.
>So you hide. You hide and watch the White Fluffy Monsters.
>When your herd lived in another city, you learned how to hide.
>Humans didn't like seeing fluffies without owners, especially
when they were eating Human trash.
>Many of your friends died, but their deaths taught you lessons.
>Lessons you repeat to yourself all the time so you don't forget
them like a stupid fluffy.
>A lot of fluffies think that if they hide their head in their
hooves, that they can't be seen.
>Dummy fluffies. You need to hide behind more than yourself.
>A trash bag, a box, a Human place, anything that is bigger than
a fluffy can hide a fluffy.
>When hiding, never make noise.
>You can still be heard when you're not seen.
>Don't make poopies when you're hiding from something.
>Poopies smell, and you can be found by the smell of your
poopies.
>If you're sneaking around, never run out in the open.
>Find another hiding place, then run straight to it.
>These lessons help keep you and your herd alive as you track
the White Fluffy Monsters.
>For almost the entire day, you watch where this group goes.
>It takes all of your will not to run out to protect herds than
run into the White Fluffy Monsters.
>You watch as some fluffies try to run away.
>The White Fluffy Monsters just run them over and tear out their
throats. One uses his horn and jabs a fluffy through his eye. A
few more jabs to the fluffy's face make him stop screaming in
pain.
>The runaways taken care of, they return to finishing off the
ones who couldn't move as quickly, like mothers and their
children.
>They all die, even the babies.
>The White Fluffy Monsters just stomp on their heads, sometimes
while the mother is watching.
>Then they kill her, her grieving sobs choked down by the White
Fluffy Monster's hoof.
>You watch as they kill a having-babies momma, then kick at her
tummy until the babies slide out of her back, covered in booboo
juice.
>You think you can hear one chirp. The rest are gagging and
sputtering on the booboo juice in their mouth, not strong enough
to spit it out.
>They get stomped too.
>Another of your herd makes mouth yuckies at the sight of it.
>All of them are shaking in terror.
>More scared poopies.
>The more you watch, the more grim it looks.
>They're so strong and so fast, and they kill so quickly.
>Can anything stop them?
>”You no huwt hewd! Smawty fwend gif biggest owies!”
>You see a smarty friend run out of a Human place towards a
White Fluffy Monster next to a big window with a lot of cracks
in it.
>The White Fluffy Monster doesn't even turn around, he just
pulls back his back hooves and bucks the smarty friend square in
the face.
>The smarty friend goes flying back, and hits the window with
enough force to break it.
>Big pieces of glass come falling down on the smarty friend and
the White Fluffy Monster.
>The smarty friend gets impaled by some big pieces, and leaks
booboo juice everywhere.
>The White Fluffy Monster gets hit by glass too, and one large
piece cuts his right back leg open.
>He doesn't scream in pain, he just looks down at the bleeding
gashes on his legs.
>”Fuzzy is bwoken, owna must buy new fuzzy.”
>That's the first time you've heard them talk.
>They call themselves Fuzzies? That's a lot easier than White
Fluffy Monster.
>You keep watching, and the group all start walking down the
street, the injured one limping slowly behind, trailing booboo
juice as he goes.
>Even with an injured leg, the Fuzzy should not be moving as
slowly as it is.
>When they round a corner, you let go of the breath you didn't
know you were holding.
>You gather your herd in the ruins of the Human place that the
now dead smarty friend ran out of, being sure to avoid all the
broken glass.
>With one of those....Fuzzies...leaking booboo juice, you can
just follow the trail after you've had a chance to rest.
>Like most of the herds in the city, your herd has had barely
any food lately, and it's only because of your leadership and
teaching that they haven't already collapsed from exhaustion.
>You need nummies.
>You look around.
>A lot of boxes and bags on the walls.
>You recognize some of them.
>Humans call them chips.
>They are salty, crunchy nummies, but very good.
>You instruct some of your stallions to pull them down to the
ground.
>After some biting and pulling, you manage to rip a bag open.
>Crunchy nummies spill out onto the floor.
>The herd looks to you for instruction. Even if their tummies
are making owwie sounds, they know to let you try new nummies
first.
>Not because you are greedy, but because some nummies might be
bad for fluffies.
>You won't let any fluffy take the risk of getting sick before
you.
>You take a few bites out of different chips.
>After waiting a few seconds without feeling your tummy hurt,
you proclaim “Dese good nummies! Haf nummies, fwuffies!”
>They don't need to be told twice.
>Even though the bags are large, you still open two more to make
sure everyone has enough.
>When everyone has a full tummy, they feel less afraid.
>Hugs are given, and some fluffies ask if they can have nappies.
>You allow it. You need time to think.
>So many thoughts are running through your head.
>The White Fluffy Monsters are called Fuzzies.
>They're big, and they're strong, but they can be hurt like any
other fluffy. It just takes bigger owwies.
>When they do get hurt, they walk very slowly.
>When they see a fluffy, they kill it immediately.
>If you want to hurt them, you need to surprise them, before
they know you're there.
>Like with the cat...
>You think for a while longer, letting your herd rest. You've
all been through hell, and if you hope to get out of it and find
the other herds again, you're going to have to be a really
really smarty friend.
>After the Big Sky Ball has moved a little, you rally your herd
to continue on.
>One mare asks to carry along a bag of chips for later nummies.
>You reluctantly agree.
>It'll slow you down and make it harder to be sneaky, but you
don't know if you'll be able to find this place again.
>The Fuzzies aren't the only danger in the city.
>With full tummies, food for later, an easy trail to follow, and
a glimmer of hope, you and your herd set of with a renewed sense
of confidence.
>By following the booboo juice trail, it's a simple matter to
track the Fuzzies even with their long head start.
>Your herd follows you stealthily, jumping from hiding place to
hiding place.
>You see other Fuzzy herds, but they don't see you.
>The mare with the chips takes longer to follow, and the bag
scrapes along the ground.
>Luckily by now, the Fuzzies have eradicated many of the herds
in the area.
>Well, that's not lucky at all, but it helps keep your herd from
being noticed.
>You peek around a corner and see another dead fluffy on the
ground, a wide cut in his leg covered in booboo juice.
>Hold on, that's too big to be a fluffy...
>You hold up a hoof, the signal for your herd to stop and wait.
>You slowly approach the body, trying not to make a sound.
>Fluffy hooves are soft, and the only thing they can hurt are
other fluffies.
>But the softness also makes them very quiet.
>It's how you were able to sneak up on that cat so long ago.
>A mighty monster was taken by surprise.
>Now that you're closer, you can see black buggies flying all
around the body.
>That means it's really dead!
>You wave your hoof and your herd slowly approaches.
>With two stallions keeping watch, the rest of you examine the
body.
>The Fuzzy must have run out of booboo juice and taken the
longest sleep.
>Its eyes are still open, but they look the same as they did
when he was alive.
>Blank.
>There's no sign of the rest of his group.
>Far as you can tell, they left him behind.
>He was too slow, and his injury too great.
>”Wha smawty fwend wan' do?”
>You sit there and look at the body, using all the brain power
your tiny head can manage.
>You think so hard your scar begins to hurt, your wingies stick
out straight, and your nose leaks a little booboo juice.
>Then everything goes black, and you fall over.
>But you still think.
>It's a trick you figured out how to do.
>It's a way to take a nap but not dream.
>You wake up still tired, but you feel smarter during Thinking
Sleep.
>Without having to worry about your herd, or your body, or
anything else, you're free to focus.
>If you can give the Fuzzies big enough owwies, they won't be as
fast.
>If they're too slow, you can fight them, maybe you can even
win!
>You now know that Fuzzies can die; they're not like the Human
Metal Monsters that only sleep sometimes when they're not
killing fluffies.
>You can't kill every Fuzzy in the city, you've seen too many to
know that's possible.
>For all you know, there could be even more.
>Could you give them owwies, then run away?
>But what if they found their friends? Then the fast Fuzzies
would chase you.
>They're a lot faster, and they look like they've had plenty of
nummies.
>No, if you can hurt them, you'll have to fight them.
>It'll be easier once they've been slowed down.
>But how to hurt them?
>You'll have to set a trap.
>That's going to be hard.
>But you think you know one that can work...
>You wake up.
>Your herd surrounds you, watching you with worried eyes.
>You sit up.
>Your head still hurts.
>You're in a box. Taking a few steps out, you can see you're in
an alley.
>Some fluffies keep watch at both ends.
>You can still see the dead Fuzzy.
>Your herd must have carried you to a better hiding place.
>You give them hugs and tell them they're all good, smarty
fluffies.
>By now the light in the sky is started to dim.
>Soon it will be Dark Time.
>You'll have to work fast.
>”Fwuffies! Haf idea fo' fighting Fuzzy Munstas! We set twap,
den gif dem biggest owwies!”
>Your herd is excited. They haven't made a trap in a very long
time. It's almost like a game to them.
>”Wha Smawty Fwend nee' fo' twap?”
>”Nee' box pawts, nee' papews, need gwasses!”
>The mare who carried the bag over steps up. “But Wogue, no haf
gwass nummies, onwy haf chippies.”
>You facehoof. Darn speech patterns. You envy humans, they're so
much easier to understand.
>”Not gwass nummies, gwasses! Wike shawp fings fwom Hooman
pwaces. Dey gif Fuzzy owwies, wememba?”
>Glass. You want pieces of glass.
>The herd understands, and they run out to find what you need.
>You take a better look at the alley.
>It's very narrow, barely enough room to put two Human Round
Metal Boxes next to each other. Humans call them trash cans.
>Good. You'll need that.
>While the smaller fluffies search for glass, you recruit your
larger stallions.
>You have some pushing to do.
>It's Dark Time when you're all done.
>No point in trying to continue since you can't see what you're
doing.
>Some of the fluffies already managed to get owwies on the sharp
glass.
>It could hardly be avoided. Your hooves are soft and quiet, but
they're not good at holding things.
>But they got the job done.
>The front of the alley is now lined with papers. They cover the
alley completely fifteen feet in.
>All across the papers are red spots just big enough for a
fluffy to stand on.
>You used blood from the dead Fuzzy.
>If you really thought about it, it would be pretty symbolic.
>Behind the trap are two trash cans.
>Moving them was not easy. They're still full, and it took your
strongest stallions to be able to push them into position.
>The trap is set.
>Some of you are hurt, some of you are sore, all of you are
tired and hungry.
>You all huddle behind the trash cans.
>It's safer at night.
>The Fuzzies all disappear at night, and come back out in the
Bright Time.
>You open the bag of chips and your herd eats.
>You give everyone hugs, telling them they're all the best
fluffies, giving extra hugs to the mare who carried the nummies.
>Compared to the earlier feast, it's a meager meal, but a
welcome one. You'll all need your strength.
>You all pile together in a big fluffy ball.
>Your rest is uneasy, worried about what will happen tomorrow.
>If your plan works, you'll finally have real hope for the first
time since you arrived.
>You'll have a chance to escape Cleveland.
>If your plan fails, you and your entire herd will be dead.
>It's Bright Time.
>Your herd gets into position.
>You make your way around the Human place to reach the streets.
>Some quick scouting finds you a group of Fuzzies walking down
another street, about 40 yards away.
>As luck would have it, it's the same group as yesterday.
>You can tell by the booboo juice on their white fluff.
>You take a deep breath.
>Showtime.
>You round the corner and blow them a raspberry.
>”Wogue no scawed of meany Fuzzies! Smawty Fwend make poopies at
you!”
>You turn around and scrunch your face as hard as you can.
>You spew poopies all over the ground.
>You've been holding it in since yesterday, and with it out of
your system, you suddenly feel lighter.
>It certainly catches their attention, because they're charging
at you full steam ahead.
>Time to run.
>The Fuzzies are fast, but so are you.
>You only ever met one fluffy that was faster than you.
>The one who brought you to this hell.
>Still, with all your speed, the Fuzzies are still faster, with
their bigger and stronger legs.
>And they're catching up.
>You makes a mad dash for the alley, the Fuzzies in hot pursuit.
>Your little heart is beating like crazy, you feel like
collapsing from exhaustion.
>No! You are Rogue, smarty friend. You must be the best fluffy
for your herd.
>Everywhere you go, fluffies are hunted down by Humans and
Monsters.
>Fluffies are never the strongest. They just get owwies and
longest sleeps whenever they try to fight anything but
themselves.
>All the fluffies have been able to do since they got to
Cleveland is be miserable until they die.
>Not this time.
>This time, the fluffies will be stronger.
>You reach the papers as the Fuzzies quickly close the distance.
They're only a few yards away, four giant white Monsters ready
to tear you open.
>You bend your back legs and leap towards the red spots on the
papers.
>They're just spread wide enough that you can jump from one to
another.
>You reach the end and squeeze between the trash cans just as
the Fuzzies stomp through the papers.
>Booboo juice spills as the Fuzzies' big feet are sliced open by
the pieces of glass hidden under the papers.
>You can hear them all saying ”Fuzzy is bwoken, owna must buy
new fuzzy.”
>One Fuzzy slips on the booboo juice and lands face first on the
glass, tearing his face open.
>Last night, you pushed glass pieces through the box parts so
they would stick up. Then you put papers on top so nothing could
see the glass.
>The only spots under the papers without glass were the spots
you marked with Fuzzy booboo juice.
>The Fuzzies ran right into your trap.
>But it's not over yet.
>”Now! Push twash cans!”
>Your herd pushes with all their might on the trash cans.
>Every muscle in their little bodies strains with the exertion.
>Then one side of the trash bins lifts a little.
>”Don' stop, fwuffies! Push twash cans!”
>You help push one of them, and after a few more seconds of
pushing with all the strength you can summon, the trash cans tip
over.
>Ordinarily, a Fuzzy would be able to jump back fast enough to
dodge the tipping trash cans.
>But, unbeknownst to you, Fuzzies were designed to slow all
movements after receiving an injury.
>It was a plan to get people to replace broken or injured
Fuzzies, instead of trying to let the injury heal.
>The slowed down Fuzzies are crushed beneath the bins.
>You and the herd cheer.
>You did it!
>Everyone hugs with joy. You even allow yourself a smile.
>The celebration is cut short when a white hoof reaches over one
of the trash cans and climbs up.
>The Fuzzy that had slipped on booboo juice had fallen to far
away from the cans to be crushed like the other three.
>But he doesn't look too good himself.
>He has deep cuts all over the left side of his face, and a big
piece of glass is stuck in his left eye.
>He doesn't seem to notice it, though. He just slowly makes his
way towards you.
>”Fuzzy is bwoken, owna must buy new fuzzy. Smawty fwend
detected. Kiww smawty fwend.”
>Uhoh.
>You and your herd backs away down the alley as it slowly
approaches you.
>Looks like you'll have to fight this one.
>Lucky for you, he's already hurt badly. Each step he takes
leave a small puddle of booboo juice.
>More booboo juice seeps from his face owwies, especially his
eye.
>You stand your ground as the Fuzzy makes its way towards you.
>”Fuzzy is bwoken, owna must buy new fuzzy.”
>It reaches down with its mouth open, trying to bite you.
>You dodge to the right and buck him on the cut up side of his
face.
>The Fuzzy stumbles back as the glass pieces are pushed further
into his skin.
>”Fwuffies, attack fwom side! No wet Fuzzy bite or kick!”
>Your herd charges the Fuzzy.
>Every time he tries to turn around to reach an attacker, they
jump out of the way as another fluffy lands a blow on the other
side.
>You pick up a piece of glass that was too big to hide under the
papers.
>You think back to the time with the cat.
>You waited until it didn't detect you, then you jabbed at it
with your blade.
>You were aiming for the face, but you ended up hitting the
throat.
>So much booboo juice.
>The cat screamed, then fell down and took the longest sleep.
>Watching the Fuzzy ponies kill fluffy herds earlier confirmed
it.
>A new lesson to remember.
>A big throat owwie can kill.
>By now the Fuzzy is facing away from you, still trying to fend
off your herd as they continue to kick and bite at his sides.
>It doesn't show any signs of pain, but you'll fix that now.
>”Fwuffies! Wun back!”
>The herd disengages and retreats back to you as you charge
forward with the glass piece.
>The Fuzzy turns around just in time for you to jab the glass
piece deep into his throat.
>But you're not done yet.
>You spin around and rear up your back hooves.
>The Fuzzy reaches down to bite you again.
>You kick the glass piece as hard as you can, driving it so deep
into the Fuzzy's throat that you can see the tip poking out of
the back of the neck.
>You run back to your herd and watch as the Fuzzy leaks booboo
juice everywhere.
>It takes two steps towards you, then finally topples over, its
white coat now mostly red.
>You and your herd are so stunned, you just stand there for a
minute, waiting for the Fuzzy to get back up.
>When he doesn't, you resume your celebration.
>You can hardly believe it.
>You killed Fuzzies.
>They're not indestructible monsters anymore.
>You let your herd rest and celebrate for awhile, then you all
set out to find a way out of the city.
>As always, you run from hiding place to hiding place, keeping
on the lookout for more Fuzzies.
>But you're not running scared anymore, because you have an
important lesson to teach other fluffies.
>Fuzzies are big, and they are mean, but they're not
unstoppable.
>You can hurt them, you can kill them.
>If you can regroup with Bowser and the others, you'll be able
to take the fight to the Fuzzies.
>You can do this.
>Today, fluffy ponies were strongest.

And that's my last challenge story. Hopefully I've demonstrated
beyond a doubt that you can take an idea someone's already
written on and make it your own. I'd especially like to hear
Tabula's thoughts, as that concern seems to be affecting him
especially. I want you all to feel like you can post anything
you've written here, without feeling like it's unoriginal. Which
was the driving idea behind this challenge. There are no Anons
here to harp on you; you're among friends.
And now to write some other ideas I've been juggling around in
my head. Currently on the docket:
- President Vermin Supreme has to make a choice about what to do
about the fluffy pony invasion of Cleveland.
- Sweetheart gets separated from her daddy and runs into a
Fuzzy.
- Where all the Fuzzies keep coming from, and why are some
attacking humans?
Seeing as my drawing skills are still somewhere between crap and
megacrap, I opted instead to make a picture of Rogue using a
partially edited fluffy from Marcus' flash game. If you think
you can do better....you definitely can.

A fluffy pony thinks so hard that it passes out so that it can
concentrate on thinking even harder, to the point it can set a
really effective trap?
And he still has lips? :o
Srsly, though, it's a really great story.
