I am also working on several editorial assignments, a personal
project and teaching illustration classes at the ied. Pablo
lacruz is an illustrator from alicante who has just reached his
forties. Perhaps that is why he feels like an "old school"
artist and prefers manual illustration to vector illustration.
He studied at the alcoy art school and began his career as a
graphic designer for various advertising agencies. He is
currently self-employed and assures that one can make a living
from painting, and that art is necessary in our society.
At imborrable we think the same, and that's why we have given
him free rein to illustrate one of the new arty notebooks ,
fresh out of the oven. Do you want to know him better? Din a

iconography and retro style characterize your illustrations, in
which you usually bring food and drinks to life. Where does this
love of drawing edible things with legs come from.

It all started with a personal project that took me years, in
which i edited a book that brought together some illustrations
of this type. I call them ”animaforms”. You can see examples on
pablo lacruz's tumblr where i also add what i find from other
illustrators. The objective is to reflect the use we make of an
object, through its personification. For example a sick pill,
vampire garlic, etc. What would you say are your influences? And
your fetish artists? Jim flora, cliff roberts, saul bass and
gene deitch are the illustrators and designers who have
influenced me the most. Others that i really like are cory
loven, marcel bontempi, tom oreb, abner graboff, jerry warshaw.
And i could go on with many more how important is the use of
color in your work? What colors do you prefer and why.
