Getting back to the Hall was difficult, to say the least. At
first they tried to have Nirralia levitate Tyia, but Tyia
complained so much that Nirralia lost her concentration,
accidentally dumping her on the ground. Next they tried having
her be supported by Aeia and Visalia, but she snarled at the
Water Embodiment until she purposely dropped her. Finally, they
figured out that she could sit on a patch of Earth that floated
in the air, controlled by Visalia's powers.
"Why can't I walk?!" Tyia grumbled for the hundredth time. "It's
just my arm, not an ankle for Pete's sake."
"I'm not answering you any more." Aeia said coldly.
Tyia humphed, starting to cross her arms before setting them
back down as a flash of pain shot down to her right elbow.
As soon as they reached the Hall, The Council Leader opened the
wide oak doors. "I was going to tell you our arrangements at the
mountain but-"
Tyia snapped. "I didn't break an arm to have you keep secrets.
What exactly is your precious plan?"
He swallowed hard, folding his hands. "I'll tell you in the
morning. You should all be heading for the mess hall."
Tyia groaned. "Ugh, fine." She tapped her fingers on the rock
surface. "Visalia," She threatened. "I am walking into that
hall."
She nodded sharply, glaring. A hole opened up in the floor under
Tyia's rock, the object lowering into the ground. Tyia
grudgingly let Nirralia help her stand up, dusting off her black
shirt with her good arm.
"Wonder what's, uh, for dinner?" Nirralia said awkwardly.

Tyia narrowed her eyes at the stares and whispers that greeted
her. The questioning looks stopped, but the whispers grew
increasingly louder.
"What happened this time?"
"She was talking about battling a dragon..."
"No! That's nearly impossible!"
"Seriously? A Dragon Shifter?! That's like, so rare!"
"Ahem."
Everyone glanced towards the Council Leader as he cleared his
throat. He motioned for Tyia to stand by him, an order that was
slowly carried out.
"Today, a centuries old tradition was revived once again. A
dragon was fought; as is the custom, the winner received a
portion of the loser's power."
Everyone's eyes widened as they realized what he was saying.
A few laughs were heard from the back. "Imagine, the great Tyia
Ashen, a loser."
Tyia glared, her dark frown suddenly turning to a smirk. "Of
course." She faked a sad, defeated look. "I- lost.." She looked
down. Even saying it to plan revenge was hard.
The laughs grew louder. "Clearly they're stupid." Someone
muttered. "No one with any experience with Tyia would do that."
They didn't hear however, and continued to poke the wildcat.
Tyia dragged the Council Leader back into the shadows before he
could correct her. "Don't say anything else..." She warned. The
man raised an eyebrow.
"Don't." She hissed. "I'll tell everyone myself."
He sighed. "Miss Ashen, I will permit you that if you promise no
one will be harmed."
She smiled evilly. "Of course."
**************************************************************
Tyia stormed over to the back of the hall, pretending to be
angry. It must have been a convincing performance; well, either
that or the crowd had been expecting it. In any case, a large
berth was given to the girl.
Tyia walked over to the idiots who had insulted her. "Hello."
She spat. "I see you're either very foolish or suicidal."
A boy with long, wild blue hair stepped forwards. "A broken
arm," He mused. "I'd win in no time."
Tyia growled. "Really? Disgusting Water Embodiment. You reek."
She shifted into a fighting stance. "You know my name; I'd like
to have the honor of knowing yours."
He gathered moisture from the air, the Water freezing and
melting again as he absentmindedly played with it. "Damian
Pandragon." He sighed blankly. "Now, shall we get on with it?"
Chapter Six
"You're going to need a few months in the infirmary after this."
Tyia retorted.
His expression remained carefully smoothed over, but a slight
tone of smugness crept in. "Really? But didn't our beloved
Leader tell you not to harm anyone?"
Her startled face quickly turned into an angry one. "You were
eavesdropping!"
He was grinning now. "No. I merely deduced that you were going
to attack during the announcement. You should leave the
deceptions to the Water Elementals. We're actually good at it."
Tyia hissed. "Like I care what he says. I should burn your guts
out. But-" She laughed. "I'll just smash you."
The crowd around them gasped as Tyia rolled up her sleeve. As
ridged mark became visible on her arm, even Damian looked
startled.
"That's right! You are stupid!" Tyia let her sleeve fall back
down her arm again. "But I'm not finished yet..."
A mass of shrieks echoed throughout the Hall as Tyia's molecules
separated. Dozens of fleeing bodies ran away, until there were
only two Elementals left.
Damian stepped back, glancing around. Dark scales became a blur
as the newborn dragon leaped. Her claws hit Ice as the boy threw
up a shield.
Flames danced around the glassy dome, rivers of Water running
down the sides as Tyia breathed on it. Damian imploded the
sphere, icicles mere rattles against iron as they hit her armor.
Looking slightly amused at the small bug below her, Tyia
playfully swatted at him. Her claws hit the ground each time as
he dodged.
Damian went on the offensive, streams of moisture wrapping
around her muzzle. She tried to steam it away, but the Fire
sputtered out. The dragon roared, a strange deep sound coming
from it's throat. It bashed the Water on the ground, the liquid
falling away.
Damian chuckled. "Water beats Fire."
The Shifter shook her head. I wish I could talk right now!
He dodged a spurt of heat, Fire and Ice flying around in the
air. A quick strike would be good enough for Tyia to injure him,
but every time she shot at him, he wasn't there.
This was still going to be easy though. She was a Dragon Shifter
now; that would give her a good advantage.
"Miss Ashen!"
Tyia growled, turning away from her quarry. She shifted back
into her human form, glaring defiantly at the elder man who was
staring at her in disbelief.
"You disobeyed my orders." He said, glancing at Damian as well.
"I told you not to harm anyone."
Tyia straightened up. "And I didn't." She pointed a finger at
Damian. "Not a scratch." Tyia clenched her fists. "As much as I
wish otherwise."
His disapproving frown grew deeper. "But you attempted to harm
him. Miss Ashen, do you actually want to go on your journey?"
Damian gave a surprised glance at the word journey.
Tyia's eyes widened. "You never mentioned a journey!" She said
furiously.
"Indeed." He said, dismissing her with a wave of his hand. "I
will explain now. But first, I would like for you to gather your
friends-"
"Comrades." Tyia hissed.
"And then head to the infirmary to have your arm put in a cast.
Damian Pandragon, you may retire to your room."
The Water Embodiment stalked off, most likely to sulk and
threaten his runaway posse.
Tyia made a point of walking the opposite direction, not caring
that she was taking the long way around.
****************************************************************
Aeia looked around the Council Hall, sitting down in a small
chair. She folded her hands in her lap, still uncomfortable with
the clothes she had been given. It was centuries after her time,
but did they really have to give her such a short skirt? At
least she didn't have to wear the things called "pants" Visalia
was currently wearing. She still couldn't believe women actually
wore trouser-like clothing...
Tyia glanced over at Aeia, her arm in a cast now. She'd only met
one other Water Embodiment besides Damian, and that was
Nirralia's adopted grandfather. The male gender didn't seem to
be very different; calm, but if you got in a fight with them,
very smooth and as quick to anger as a brooding storm. Was Aeia
like that?
Nirralia looked at Tyia. She hoped that the Fire Embodiment was
all right, but right now she was wonderbouncing in her seat in
excitement. Tyia had been angry about her Grandfather not
telling them...
What she'd heard next was a collection of varied threats, and
then the word "Journey." Nirralia grinned in excitement. Where
were they going?
Visalia looked around at the group of people who were examining
them, as if they were looking for some sort of miracle.
"Where are we going?" Tyia asked impatiently, crossing her arms.
"You promised to tell us that. And I want to know what we're
going there for. Are we looking for a certain object?"
The Head of the Council stood up, clearing his throat to speak.
"As mentioned before, the world is wasting away, becaiuse of
machines that are draining Elemental magic. The only way we have
found to repair the damage is to first destroy these machines,
then have the four most powerful Embodiments give a portion of
their life force away. It seems there was a prophecy centuries
ago about this:"
The Ia, the powerful, the noble, the kind. The ones that endure
world's end. We shall take their love and let the force grow,
and then the world will be saved.
"What are the Ia?" Nirralia asked, raising her hand.
"The word Ia means Elemental." The Head answered. "If you
haven't noticed, all your names end with it."
Visalia stood up. "But you still haven't answered where we're
going."
He looked at her. "The truth is, we've only located one of the
machines. It's embedded in a mountain near the Texas
borderline."
