Art theft
By: Fang Date: December 17, 2017, 9:56 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Lately, there has been a large increase in art theft going on
here. I would like to clarify a few things so that we can
prevent art theft as much as possible. Most people committing
art theft don't even know that they're doing it, which is
unfortunate because they may still be held responsible. To
prevent involuntary art theft, please read this.
Tracing a photograph is NOT okay!
You may not trace a picture and use the lineart that you have
made. It is deceiving and is just like tracing digital artwork.
If an artist signs their artwork, do not remove the signature!
When coloring a lineart or receiving a custom art piece from
somebody, you must leave their signature on. If not, you are not
crediting the original artist!
Art theft is ILLEGAL. If you claim a design as your own, do not
credit an artist for their lineart, or use other members'
artwork, you are breaking the law. Facediary cannot be held
responsible for anything posted by its users, but we do not
tolerate it and will warn you to remove such artwork.
What Art Theft means on this site
When using artwork made by someone else and without their
permission to describe any part of your character and/or the
selling of artwork that you do not have any kind of copyright or
creative commons license to sell.
What this means for people who want to put pictures on their
profile
Don’t. End of story. If you put artwork up that does not belong
to you and that you do not have permission by the artist to use
- YOU CANNOT USE IT. Honestly, the Staff cannot be more clear
than that. Other users will report you for Art Theft and Staff
will ask you to take it down. So save yourself some trouble and
don’t use art that isn’t yours.
Thank-you for reading! Hopefully, you understand a bit more
about art theft and why it is not okay. If you see a profile
that has stolen artwork on it, please PM a Moderator
(Seaglimmer, Littlespark, Aquaria) and they will take care of
it. It is not an admins job to take care of illegal actions.

Well said Fang, I think this is a worldwide issue, but I must
say it is very damaging, even if it doesn't seem so.

I would like to inform you that this is false, in no way I, or
any other of the admins/moderators and artists mean to make a
fool of you. We were doing it so that others would understand
how much Art Theft is damaging. Which, we would like you to
understand.

That is totally true, you should not disrespect anyone, even if
they are making a fool of you. All and all, that is not how you
react to these situations Fallen. Plus, please do not create an
account on the forum when you have previously been blocked on
Facediary.

How does that work? Its a little, unfair. If we were breaking
the law everytime we used someone's art, we would probably all
be having a life sentence in prison. Can you explain more about
it to me? Its a little confusing.

I personally agree with everything you just said, and yes, it is
confusing at first. Basically, if you took a photo from Google,
that's fine. But you must give credit where ever you use it when
it can be viewed by others. Claiming it as your own, or not
giving credit is named Art Theft. But it depends on the rules of
the place you are collecting the art from, if it is restricted,
don't consider doing it. If you are allowed, you may. But as I
said it differs.

I totally agree because Artists spend so much time making that
art. and then you claim it as your own or etc. Its so unfair.

Thats correct, I think that Art theft is wrong and that if you
really don't want someone accidently doing it to put a big
EXAMPLE across the artwork.
