       Scholarship: Early-CareerAfrican Academics

       We are using this medium to bring youthis vital information, we
       hope readersfind it useful and put it to good use.
       Carnegie Corporation of New York is funding three distinct
       competitive fellowship opportunities for early-career African
       academics working on peace, security and development issues.
       The 3 fellowships are:
       Doctoral Dissertation Proposal  Fellowship: assists short-term
       research costs of up to US$3,000 to develop a  doctoral
       dissertation proposal.
       Doctoral Dissertation Research  Fellowship: assists 9 ¨C 12
       months of  dissertation research costs of up to  US$15,000 on a
       topic related to peace,  security, and development.
       Doctoral Dissertation Completion  Fellowship: assists a one-year
       leave  from teaching responsibilities with a  stipend of up to
       US$15,000 to facilitate the completion of a dissertation that
       advances boundaries of knowledge of  interest to peace,
       security, and  development issues.
       The three Fellowships, in addition, seek to promote diversity,
       and women are particularly encouraged to apply.
       NUMBER OF AWARD(S):About 45 fellowships are offered annually.
       DURATION OF AWARD(S): They are offered annually. The Doctoral
       Dissertation Research Fellowship covers a period of 9-12 months.
       ELIGIBILITY:
       Doctoral Dissertation Proposal Fellowship: Applicants must be
       admitted to a graduate program but have yet to formally commence
       the dissertation research.
       Doctoral Dissertation Research Fellowship: Applicants must have
       an approved dissertation proposal but should not have spent 9 or
       more months on the research.
       Doctoral Dissertation Completion Fellowship: Applicants must be
       in the final year of writing and should have completed at least
       one chapter of the thesis.
       Please note: Only applicants that are citizens and residents of
       a sub-Saharan African country and holding current faculty
       positions at an accredited college or university in Ghana,
       Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, or Uganda are eligible to apply
       for this PhD Fellowship.
       Applicants for any of the funding opportunities offered through
       this program must have a masterĄ¯s degree and be working towards
       the completion of a doctoral degree.
       SELECTION CRITERIA: Proposals should:
       offer clear and concise descriptions of the thesis and its
       significance; reflect athorough knowledge of the relevant social
       science literature that applicants will engage and the
       methodological approaches of  relevance to the project.
       In addition, applicants must demonstrate that all proposed
       activities are feasible and can be completed in a timely manner.
       All proposals will be evaluated for these criteria by an
       independent, international committee of leading scholars from a
       range of social sciencedisciplines.
