So I tried to have the still life look romantic (lighting, color
scheme, etc.). The shadows lead your eye off of the picture,
but otherwise, I think I did pretty well. The problem is that
when I converted the image, it got a whole lot darker than the
initial render was. I tried to get around the problem by saving
in different formats, but nothing worked. If you could give me
any advice on how to fix that, it would be great. I'll talk
       with the teacher about it.

Something I do to fix the issue is light the scene brighter than
I intend to have it, because when Maya renders it tends to
darken the image. So, adding a low, white, ambient light should
help fix the issue. From what I can see the image looks very
nice, but I'll probably wait until the brightness is fixed
       before I comment further.

Good news! I got the image to have lighting closer to the
original render by adding a brightness/contrast filter in
Photoshop (Brightness: 150, Contrast: -50). The teacher told
       about that.

Glad you figured it out! The modeling of each individual object
is almost impeccably done, with great attention to detail. The
image suffers however, from very mono-chromatic lighting, and no
central focus, along with the fact that the bottom half of the
image is near empty, with all important pieces seated at the
top. Also, the candlestick doesn't appear to be emitting any
light, and the brightness still makes things a little hard to
make out properly. I really enjoy the sheen on the glass though!

The lighting is way to dark, it's hard to make out any of the
objects other than the candle holder, and wine glass. however
from what I can see, the objects look well modeled.

I had to turn off the glow option in the render settings because
there were these weird white points of light that kept popping
up in the render that corresponded to none of the actual lights
I had set (could have been the base lights, but I doubt it).
