Extrude issue

I am working on the ear for the 3d modeling character tutorial.
I am extruding the ear so that it is able to reach the head, but
one vertex is going in the complete opposite direction. I have
checked and all my polygons have 4 sides, and the loop goes
completely around.
Let me know if you know how to fix this, because for now, I'm
stuck.

Be sure that your vertices are merged. If the problem still
happens, select all of your vertices, shift right click > vertex
normals > set normals to face. If the problem still persists
past that, upload a video so I can see exactly whats happening

so... neither of those options worked. I don't know how to do
the video, but I did post an image of what was happening after
the extrusion. This is what I did:
1. selected the ring of edges closest to the head. (it went all
around the ear.)
2. extruded it towards the head.
Then I got this:

I did find some hidden faces in the part of the ear that goes
into the head, deleted those, but the extrude was much worse.
If your wondering what specific part I am having trouble on, it
is at 29:00 on the character 08 tutorial. The image I posted on
DeviantArt is what the end result has ended up as.

have you tried just using the move tool after you extrude
instead of the little extrude tool. the extrude tool/ widget
moves the components based off their normals,
so if you have the blue arrow facing toward the head you would
think ill pull that forward and they will over lap, that would
be true if every components face was facing in that direction,
but rarely that is the case.
