Mariah Schlosser - Steampunk Mythology Entry

Hello, everyone! :D
I am so happy to say that my Steampunk Mythology entry is
finished! *phew* I've been working on it and multiple concepts
and poses since the contest was announced. I was just so excited
to do this because I love Mythology but what discouraged me a
little was the Steampunk part because I am so unfamiliar with
the genre. However, that was nothing a few days of research
couldn't handle! :)
Anyway, for my entry, I decided to go with Aphrodite (Venus) the
Goddess of love, beauty, pleasure, and procreation. I used the
original statue, Venus de Milo
(

as a reference
to start the whole project. Which was hard, especially in the
face area.

I decided to mix in the description and information of Aphrodite
with the steampunk features...
First, her body is mainly displayed as a boiler. Passion (and
especially lust) is a "burning" sensation and has always been
described in various ways that passion and lust are "hot" (both
literally and metaphorically).
Then, there is a boiler gauge in her core. It is in the shape of
a heart that symbolizes love (or lust) depending on how you see
it.
Also, her chest is where the fire which the steam then escapes
from the pipe connected to her head.
Adding on that, the eye patch was originally to be a gear but I
soon realized that gears (for me) are difficult to draw. So I
replaced it with an "eye patch". I made the glass of the eye
patch pink because one of the colors that represents Aphrodite
is pink.
Lastly, the background is supposed to represent a boiler room
with hanging wires and constant black smoke but the attention
isn't supposed to go to the background. The background actually
draws the eyes to Aphrodite herself.
My most favorite part about this is the coloring of the statue
and adding the texture onto it.
My least favorite part of this project was that my computer
continued to "auto save" and sometimes crash all together. I
also have a shaky hand so trying to make a smooth line was
difficult.
Here is the WIP for this project:

Thank you for taking your time to read/see this! <3

I must say, it looks really good. I like the fire as well as the
detail put into the cracks in the head near the robotic eye.
