Not sure about "Asian", but as to Korea... well, yes. Because of
articles like this one:
HTML https://www.scmp.com/week-asia/society/article/2164130/why-south-korea-so-intolerant-its-gay-community
Mind you, I don't think it's a very good article. For one thing,
it doesn't even attempt to explain anything, not in my opinion,
at any rate. For another, I'd say for a country which only
abolished its openly anti-gay laws about 15 years ago, an
approval rate of 37% for same-sex marriage is nothing short of
fantastic.

Thank you for the link. I'll make sure to read it. And,
thanks also for the new phrase "Mind you" :)

Thank you for sharing your creativity here. Have you ever
thought about becoming a director or scriptwriter?
Did you mean why the girl was in the car? Just to make
the audience thought that the third-wheel guy loves her, I
guess. At least, that's what I thought.
What did you think?
[/quote]
I don't know about that, Terecia. Me? Writing scripts? Don't you
think they'd be like... really random? And silly?
Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking. She was in the car just
to confuse people. The beauty of twists like this is usually in
the fact that you can watch the scenes again and think "oh, I
see, that's why!" but in this case you think "so why is she
there, then? He doesn't even like her. Oh, right, he was just
imagining her being there. Why was he imagining her being
there?!"

Yes, I know what you mean, Nikola. On the other hand, you could
argue she's there because the driver is feeling persecuted by
her, because she's always precisely where he doesn't want her to
be, couldn't you? Which of course doesn't explain that rather
tenderly lifted hand.
So, I guess, if homosexuality is pretty much a no-no in Korean
mainstream society, then the more likely explanation is perhaps
that the video was meant to be a bit ambiguous? Like, if you
didn't want to see gay love, you wouldn't necessarily have to
see it? As in "See, those two guys had such a beautiful - purely
heterosexual! - friendship until both of them fell in love with
the same girl. Now the only thing the guy who didn't get the
girl is wishing for is to turn back the clock, because life used
to be so much easier"?

I think it's probably the latter. Music videos don't tend to be
very deep. This way they can turn around and say "What? Gay? Is
that what you took from this story of forbidden love between a
man and a woman?" :)
Another possibility is that he is bisexual and they both let him
down. Shame on them.

I didn't write my question about the story on the video at
first, but I thought the same as Nikola's. "Why was she sitting
next to him in the car?"

So, did you show the video to us because you want to say it? Why
did you want to see our reaction first? Are you talking about
the effect of the film or talking about the LBGT?
I don't get your intention.
I like films so I focused on the contents. I think Susan did,
too.
Terecia, if you want to talk about the LBGT, you should say it
first. It's a touchy topic, but we can talk on EGP. It's not
italki. Don't worry. But I'm not the person who is good at the
topic, so I'm out. I don't mean I dislike gay people. I don't
mind at all. I just don't have any ideas to discuss.
Speaking of the film of Gay, here is a new one.

The clip reminds me of going to a particular Korean restaurant,
which was extremely popular (with waits for a table of like an
hour or longer on weekends), in Sacramento and it had multiple
TV screens playing music videos just like this one perpetually.
The place was so popular because the food was fantastic.
I‘m not a fan of Korean music videos, which I‘m sure comes as no
surprise to anyone. Nothing against them of course. They are
just not my thing.
When I watched the first video I thought it definitely had a gay
theme to it, which for me wasn‘t especially new or unusual to
see. So, I looked at it a second time and I thought it was quite
obvious. The guy crying at the end, tearing up the picture by
removing the girl from it and putting himself next to the other
guy can mean only one thing, in my opinion. I can‘t say it means
the guy‘s friend getting married was gay too and closeted, not
necessarily (I don‘t recall any hints one way or the other), but
the guy crying at the end conveys a clear message.
The video reminds me of an anecdote I was told once. I have an
acquaintance (can‘t really say friend, since I don‘t know the
the guy that well, and never met him personally, just online
through business). He‘s an older person, now 72 I think, and
he’s gay and married to his partner of 20 some odd years and
lives in Louisville, Kentucky. He volunteered to serve in the US
Navy in 1966, during the Vietnam War, and went through medical
tech school. While in training he became friends with a guy who
he now believes was gay, but of course closeted (like everyone
back then). The guy I know was planning on marrying his
girlfriend from high school at the time, which he did (he stayed
married to her from 1966-1980 or so and had two kids. Then
divorced and came out as gay- just in time for the AIDS epidemic
sadly enough). He said when he told this friend of his in the
military that he was marrying a women/girlfriend from high
school the guy almost started to cry and looked heartbroken. So,
this video reminds me exactly of this little story. It‘s
probably a theme that as played out many times in life with no
one knowing.
Of course, there‘s an alternative interpretation. The clip is
odd in that the three obviously know one another well. But, the
one fellow (not marrying the girl) clearly does not like the
girl. Look at the looks he constantly gives her. He hates the
fact this male friend of his is marrying her. So, is it that the
girl married this guy‘s friend and not him the reason he hates
her so much? Possibly. Yet, in spite of this the girl and the
other guy still want to be friends with this fellow? It could
be. That‘s the alternative hetero interpretation of the clip.
But, I just can‘t get over the ending scene with the picture
being torn up and the guy putting his picture next to the male
friend‘s. If he‘s heartbroken over the loss of the girl, why
doesn‘t he put the girl‘s picture next to his? That‘s why I see
the closing shot as the answer to the apparent puzzle.

And this is the best as a gay movie. I realized why he wrote
such mysterious lyrics of Bohemian Rhapsody.

It's the best comment of yours ever.
I didn't know Freddie Mercury of Queen had such a hard time.
Now, every time I listen to his Bohemian Rhapsody, I almost
tear.

That film clip makes me GLAD this so-called „gay conversion“
therapy garbage is illegal in California. It has and never has
had a shred of scientific support for it, in fact contrariwise,
has scientific support that it is not only completely
ineffective in 100% of cases, but is in fact psychological
damaging. Good riddance to this abominable pseudoscience. This
is just an example of people who will not accept the world the
way it is. That phenomenon is nothing new in human history.
There have always been people who will not accept the world the
way it is.
I heard a psychiatrist at the University of Michigan Medical
School quoted in an interview about 10 years say „We don‘t know
what causes homosexuality and we don‘t know what causes
heterosexuality and anyone who tells you they do is lying to
you.“
This raises an obvious point: if homosexuality has a cause, then
so must heterosexuality have one. I think the funniest T-shirt I
ever saw in San Francisco years ago said, „What Causes
Heterosexuality??“
I got a good laugh out of that. How many times have you heard
THAT question asked? Ah never. LOL.
