The Rules!

I wish I could say that this is a forum with no rules, but I
cannot give myself over to complete anarchy. I quite realize
that if I lived in a state of anarchy, I and my ilk* would be
the first the anarchists would line up against the wall to be
shot.
Let's say for the moment, and as an experiment, that this is a
forum with very few rules.
The guiding principle should be that you should write as if the
person were sitting face to face, a big happy dinner party among
friends. Feel free to write about any topic, we are all adults
here. Since we are language learners we are of above average in
intelligence, inquisitiveness, and communication skills - for
the most part we should not need moderation. So be adult, be
polite, and dare I say it - strive to be charming. It is a
dinner party after all.
Try to stay on topic, but understand that topics here have a way
of morphing and changing, so that the end result is often
unrecognizable as a descendant of the original post. That is
fine. However, please try to keep controversial subjects and
debates on their own threads. The admins and moderators will
split posts without notification and usually without mercy if
your post wanders into unrelated controversy. In this, their
entirely subjective and possibly arbitrary decisions are final.
Finally I will just say a word here that as adults our community
does not accept bullying, racial or ethnic hatred, invasion of
member privacy (doxing), or harsh personal insults/language.
Polite, charming, adults. Serious or repeated violation of "The
Rules" (such as they are) can lead to deleted posts, suspension
or being banned from the community.
Have Fun!
*no, not a big deer.
