Clickbait a mean to attract attention
By: Aliph Date: May 11, 2018, 7:10 am

I just learned a new word in English. Clickbait (thank you
Truman)
Wikipedia defines it like this:
Click-bait is a web page link designed to entice users to go to
a certain web-page or video. Click-bait headlines typically aim
to exploit the "curiosity gap", providing just enough
information to make readers curious, but not enough to satisfy
their curiosity without clicking through to the linked content.
What do you think about using this tactic to attract people?
Giving a dramatic title to a discussion in order to attract some
readers on Italki? Do you use this tactic yourself? Are you in a
desperate need of attention and any mean is handy?

Yeah, I used it - or so I thought - in my last notebook entry:
Why We Shouldn't [s]Emphasize[/s] Empathise with Bad Guys.
Didn't work. After all, I have already seen tons of titles like
that myself, so I shouldn't be surprised. My next title will be:
How a Woman Ate Her Child by Accident.
Anyway, it's really hard to make a good click-bait title. After
all, it's been practiced for years now and people have learned
to judge what's behind it.
As a consumer, I hate it and I try to avoid the websites that
use this tactic, which is not always possible, obviously.

There was a troll on Italki who was an expert in it, wasn't he?
I was always telling myself he was a troll and I shouldn't
comment on his discussions, but the titles just made them so
interesting.
I always read them and, one day, before I could even notice, the
title was so provocative that when I realised, I had already
written a comment and posted it. Lucky he deleted his account
(or was banned) because I regret it yet!

If I knew how to write convincing clickbait headlines, I'd do it
like a shot - in order to make people comment on threads, of
course. :)
And since you seem to be quite good at it, Lost Minion, maybe we
could officially commission you with writing them for us, hm? Or
at least for me.

Surprising headlines are always used on the newspapers and on
traditional broadcasting website like BBC. I often impressed the
writer's talents.
These days anyone can be writers in the internet world. The
titles which amatures write often pop up to get attentions. I
think those "Clickbait" turn out to reveal their low
intelligence.
Because the purpose of "clickbait" is just collecting people not
make people read. So the writers of "clickbait" can't write good
articles nor essays anyway.
I wonder what "clickbait" means. Does it fish the readers?
Or does it bite the writers to let them know their weak brains?
However, I can tell that the person who created the word
"clickbait" must be very clever.
mmm....the personal test TrumanJerry introduced yesterday must
be accurate. My post is very judgemental.

"Click bait ----->

Jerry"
That's simply brilliant. You just choose any clickbait.
And then leave the reader to wonder whether the guy was in a
coma while he imagined having a beautiful singing voice. Or
whether he'd written the post while comatose (quite likely IMO).
