Neal, you got me! I'm a big fan of GOT. so when her hand was
shaking, I felt sorry and, when she disappeared, I almost crying
like "Oh, no...poor girl, Arya!"
By the way, she is a British, right? She speaks like an American
in the video.
I watched the whole episodes twice. First, with Japanese
subtitle and secondly with English subtitle.
I watched it every day for two months. I was away from EGP or
italki during my GOT months. I've noticed the actors English is
different. I mean, when I started to watch it, only Tyrion
Lannister's English is much different. Then I googled it and
found he was an American.
There was difference among British people too. Jon Snow and his
first love,Ygritte, their English is very difficult. Arya's
mother, Kit(?), her English sounds beautiful, more British-like.
I like Davos. I don't want him to die. Please!

I like the host in the video, too. He is very famous in the US,
right? I forgot his name, but I remember he sings very well.

In fact, that is exactly how most young girls in England speak
today. She has a very typical accent of southern England. I
can assure you that there's nothing at all American about her
accent.
I'm puzzled. Just curious - what makes you think that she sounds
American?

Really? I'm not sure but her rhythm doesn't sound like British
in the video to me.
Maybe British English that I hear is... maybe BBC English only?
Arya and Sansa, are their English same? Sansa sounds more
British. no? I can't catch her words that much.
I've learned American English for a long time. so I'm not
familiar with British but Arya's English is not so difficult to
me, then I thought she speaks like an American.

The accents used by the characters in GoT are a range of
different British accents - RP for the nobility, and regional
working-class accents for the lower-status characters.
Regardless of their 'own' accents (Danish, Irish, American..),
the actors all use these accents when they're in character. Did
you see the recent thread on i***ki about the GoT accents? You
might find it interesting.

From the beginning to 00:30 sounds British, when I heard her
"pretty" from 1:00 and from 1:40 sounding, I thought it sounds
like an American girl.
Arya's intonation is different from British that I know.
Su.Ki. Thank you for explanation. I understand. I had worked a
British man from London for five years. His parents are
professors at a university. When I listen to BBC news, I
remember him.
Now I'm working with a British from Plymouth. I didn't
understand his English at first.

No, not at all. In words like 'pretty', Maisie is using a
typical British glottal stop. This is where the 't' is caught at
the back of the mouth, so it sounds like 'pri-ee' - with a
slight choking sound in the middle. This has been a feature of
Cockney (East London working-class speech) for a long time, but
over recent decades it's spread throughout Britain. Many people,
especially under 30s, all over the UK use glottal stops in words
like bottle and city (pronounced 'bo'ul' and 'ci'ee).
This is completely different from how an American would say
these words. In American English, the 't' in a word like
'pretty' is an alveolar flap, which is a light sound on the roof
of the mouth like a soft d, almost like 'pre(d)y'.
Listen again, and I hope you'll hear the difference.

I was surprised she didn't pronounce "water" like this.
