What is going on in Neal's Greenhouse, March Issue

Been busy! Remember those pansy seedlings last fall? Well they
are all dressed up and about ready to go to the Ball!

The pictures make me feel relax after writing long comments
about global warning and the death penalty. Thank you. :D

It was warm and sunny over the weekend. The Pansys are going
       crazy:

I just sold 600-800 cases, depending on the weather this
       weekend. A good start :-)

You do have an impressive greenhouse, Neal. Do you sell herbal
plants, the ones with the weird names, like „comfrey“ that
herbalists use? My German friend is sort of an herbalist expert
and grows all these weird bushes for home remedies for just
       about everything.

Herbs are a bit of a pain in the ass, you only sell some of them
at any quantity and if you want to be really known as the 'Herb
Guy' you have to grow dozens or maybe hundreds of varieties.
And each herb has different requirements with heat, water,
space, it gets too complicated. We grow about 12-15 different
herbs and if people want something crazy we send them to the
crazy 'Herb Guy' up the road.
We also have a crazy 'lavender guy' out here and he gets a TON
of Asian visitors in summer when the lavender is blooming.
There is some connection with either (or both) Chinese and
Koreans and taking pictures in the Lavender, especially wedding
       parties.

The number of herb varieties are pretty amazing. I had no idea
there were so many, let alone what they look like or what they
are used for. I learned the word „comfrey“ about 3 days ago.
It`s really a world of its own. When my German friend takes me
on a tour of her Garden in the summers, she points out one
plant/ herb variety and gives me the German name for it and
explains what she uses it for. Of course I`ll stand there with
the iphone and look up the German word on the translator and I
get some strange English word like „dogwood wart thistle.“ (I
just made that up) and I`m thinking, „Okay, well that´s one word
I can forget about“, since the English word is a complete
mystery to me too. (I`ll remain in my ignorance and just say,
„that funny looking bush with the little yellow flower things on
it.“ ) No wonder languages have like over a million words in
them but you only need 30,000 or so to be fully fluent. I
couldn`t imagine the complexity of knowing which herb to grow,
how to grow it, and all that goes into it, and then with a small
market for sales, what´s the point?

The crazy 'Herb Guy'! haha! I know some people around me. They
like to give herbs and explain to me. I like smells of herbs but
I have allergy to some. So I'm scared of have herb tea, then I
       decline them politely.
The lavender guy! haha! When I was a child, I think lavender
didn't exist in Japan. When did it come and how it became
popular? The word, lavender often used in the romantic stories.
       Why?
Pansys are very familiar to Japanese children, as they plant
them at the elementary school. The top three that Japanese
children can name are Cherry blossom,Tulips and Pansys. But most
of children can draw only tulips. And the sun, somehow.
