       Studying on Youtube
By: Allie Date: March 6, 2019, 6:06 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Apparently watching YouTubers studying for hours is a thing.
More than that, some claim watching those videos (I am not even
talking about uploading, just watching) can help with
motivation, concentration and even getting better scores.
Seeing this kind of things, I can't help but wonder the real
impact of birthdays, as I don't get it.
Anyway... do you follow the trend?
Any other internet trend that has caught your attention?

Thanks, Allie. Yet another fascinatingly weird trend. No, I
don't really get it. Although... maybe I should recommend these
videos to a young student of mine who I feel could do better?
But, I'm sorry, I also don't get what you're saying about
       birthdays...?

Nothing much, it just seems that as years go by, my ability to
       assimilate trends seem to decrease.
As for your student, some people say it works. I've never tried,
so who am I to say it doesn't? IF I understood it right, it is
supposed to give the impression you're studying in group and
there are even live streams people can join

Ah - well, glad to hear I'm not the only one who's starting to
feel somewhat behind the times, Allie. :)

Seems to me yet another way to actually NOT study.
This is like the guy who needs to mow his lawn { garden, for you
Anglophiles } who watches his neighbor mow his grass and thinks
how bad his looks in comparison. So then he gets peeved at his
neighbor for being such a show off. In other words, the viewer
of the studying vids is probably a poor student who will remain
that way because he/she is lazy.

       @Gef
Not sure if I laugh or pity the poor guy (bloke, for Anglophiles
       ;) )
       @Alharacas
On second thoughts… I may have been somewhat hypocritical.
I take part in language challenges. I could just write entries
on a regular paper notebook or record myself on my phone, but I
do it online. I update my youtube channel regularly and every
time there's a writing challenge, I end up joining.
Having this in mind, I am not sure if what I do is that much
       different.

Can you please explain to me what's so American about the word
       "lawn"? ;D

I can imagine it being helpful for those who just hate to be
alone. I would imagine that the model of the person studying
could keep them on track longer. They would study and look up,
see the model of the person still studying, and probably could
       have longer study sessions.
The ones I really have doubts about are the ASMR versions. If
you haven´t been aware of ASMR, it is videos without talking
that often include whispering or magnification of non-speech
sounds like the pencil against the paper. Supposedly, some
people find them relaxing. (I just find them irritating so I
only use them with the sound turned off when I want to practice
describing things to my Spanish teachers. i have used ASMR
cooking videos for this purpose.). To me, the sounds of the
ASMR videos, especially with all the whispering and the extra
loud sounds of calculators, etc in the study videos are not only
       weird but very distracting.

Allie, I'd say it's quite different! Most of all because of the
feedback you get. Much as I admire the German student who became
fluent by speaking German to himself all the time, I don't think
this is something many people would be able to do.

If they say they are motivated by the videos, it effects a lot
for them. My question is about their habits that they need
always technology and friends for anything, anytime. Is it
because they are digital generations? I worry that those young
people never be able to survive after graduation if they can't
study alone now. They look too weak enough to sail on bigger sea
which is called a real world.
