Do you trust Academy Awards?

I'm watching ROMA on Netflix. Because I heard it was nominated
Academy award. But I had a feeling like it was going to be a
boring movie. Then I suddenly someone wrote about ROMA on EGP
and came here, Sofia's disscusiion and checked it out. Oh.. ok,
my guessing seems to be right.
What did you think of Roma? I watched it because it is
the artsy film that is going to win the Oscars this year. I
hated it. Hated. Hated like I was reading a horrible novel
that I had to finish for a class. Forced myself to watch it, to
see if ANYTHING would happen. Nothing happened. And nothing
happened very slowly. Glacially. Hated it. And I love
movies.
I don't like monotone(no color) movies if it's not old ones like
Chaplin. It might express the old time, but personally I think
it's weird. They had more colors in old times in real life. I
don't know why Neal hated ROMA, but I might stop watching it.
I'm going to watch Black Panther instead. I like colorful
clothes. The designer of Black Panther won Academy awards.
Green Book also sounds interesting. It will be played at the
theaters from Saturday in Japan.
Bohemian Rhapsody, of course I watched it at the theater. It was
great. Why didn't it win Oscar as a work, main actor won it
though? Because it was a gay's story?
Do you trust Academy Awards? How is it criticized in your
country?

Personally I love old movies, my kids sometimes see me watching
TV and they ask if I watch anything in color any more. I don't
like silent movies too much, but there are a few.
I don't mind if a modern movie comes out in black and white,
Schindlers List comes to mind and it did not matter to me that
it was black and white. In some ways you can do more with that
kind of photography. Roma I just did not like because of the
pace and the camera work.
Oscar winners often re-release the movies in February and March,
so winning the Oscar has some economic value. But most people
don't really care. The Oscars are decided by movie making
professionals, and often they do not have the same ideas about
what is good as the general public does.
The actors and technicians and writers that win must be very
pleased, it is a sign that they have done good work.
Panther probably didn't win because in the end it was from a
comic book, and I think the Hollywood insiders don't appreciate
that.

Ooh! it was! I forgot it. It was a great movie. Only a little
girl wearing a red dress was colored. Yeah, I watched it three
times. I also love Life Is Beautiful(La vita è bella). It's an
Italian movie. I watched it three times and I cried at the same
scene when the music, Offenbach was played. It was a record not
CD player of course.
