Alharacas, ah, right, sorry, it's probably not as well-known in
other countries. Usually something like this —

omg...I don't have any emotion that I can say someone or
somewhere is cool. At first, I couldn't understand what you all
guys talking about. I'm puzzled still.....What does 'cool' mean
about people and country? Good people and comfortable places to
live?

Chizuko, think back to school. There's always this girl
everybody wants to be friends with, isn't there? Well, she's the
"cool" girl.
Does that help?

It must be hard to be a German or American tourist.
They are often seen as moneybags… or not. I guy told me once he
loved that as he was just an average Joe in his homeland, but
when travelling he felt like a rockstar (or a hip hop star or
whatever is in now)
[/quote]
Er... I must be really thick, because it's not something I've
ever noticed. Actually, I feel rather cheated now (a bit like
Kseniia), because I've never felt like a rockstar, either. :D
@Kseniia - Thanks. Interesting. Interesting the Chinese police
doesn't crack down on them, either.

Oh, I understand. mm...I've never lived abroad, so even though
I'm working with a British and a Canadian, I can't name which
people are cool. They are not so different to me. I love to
watch soccer games and I think they are so cool wherever they
come from. Probably I prefer Spanish, Brazilian, Italian and
Uruguay players to Asians.

Are Germans cool? Here in Italy feelings seem to be ambivalent.
On the one hand, Germans are admired for being hard-working and
precise and making stuff that works properly (there's no better
selling point here than "made in Germany") and also for having a
country that functions well; but on the other hand, nobody
actually wants to be like a German: being called "German" is a
common criticism levelled at people who are too precise or like
to stick to the rules.

No, no, Coligno, of course not! Germans are about as far from
cool as you can get. I'd already corrected my first statement.

Neal,
I know this thread is a few days old, but you said the Canadians
are Vanilla? I thought that myself once, that they were sort of
nice folks whom everyone in the world liked. But, wow, go over
to Quora and listen to them there! You won`t believe the
Canadians on that board with their vitriol for all things
American, and Americans in general. Oh, they`ll say it´s not
the individual Americans they hate, just the government, but in
the same breath they`ll say „But, its your government and you
chose so it`s your fault. And the way you treated your blacks
and Native American Indians was horrible.“
I think I asked, „The way I treated which blacks or Native
American Indians? What, are we now all responsible for the sins
of our ancestors? When did we start doing that? I thought that
was just a North Korean thing, you know, imprisoning people`s
ancestors back 3 generations for whatever wrongs the individual
committed?“ And in a country of 325,000,000, I`m responsible
personally for how the government is run? Gee, thanks.
This was all part of this question, „As Canadians, does it
bother you if you are confused overseas and mistaken for
Americans?“ All the Canadians said, „You better believe it
bothers me! I tell people immediately I`m Canadian!!!!! Then
they smile at me and say, `Oh, good. So you`re okay then.´“
And then, all they do is brag about their universal healthcare,
over and over, ad nauseam, and how they can go to the doctor or
an ER for free, and oh how great it is. So I asked them „So, the
formula is, universal healthcare=good country. No universal
healthcare=bad country. Is that how it works? I was wondering
about that. Thanks for letting me know.“
I`d love to turn you and Jerry on those pompous you-know-whats.

You can open a new discussion about it. Good topic.
