Pinning, unpinning, closing, banning, what are the privileges/ c
ompetences of ADMIN?
By: Aliph Date: February 10, 2019, 3:41 am

Hi there. I wanted to comment on a thread this morning and it
was impossible. Spend about 10 Minutes to figure it out and
thought that it was due to early signs of my premature cognitive
decline. Then I figured out that ADMIN (on demand of the
moderator?) had closed the topic, after admin had the last word
of course
Is my hypothesis correct?
Some thoughts came to my mind:
1) If ADMIN wants to close this joint, she just needs to push
the button. No warning in advance no consultation of all the
venerable members!
2) if someone closes his account his posts are still visible,
same thing if he is banned. Do you agree with that?
3) these two rules are not specified in the ToS. Oh [s]I need a
lawyer.[/s]
That said, we never thanked our ADMIN for all the work she did
until now. We are really ungrateful people, aren’t we?

Dutees and privileges of the ADMIN (2)

PS: I first posted this under ToS but then I saw that it wasn’t
available for non-logged people so I posted it also under

Sofia, I see your problem with the fact that posts remain.
However, wasn't there a comment just recently about the awful
discussions full of holes which remain on italki after all the
banned members' posts have been erased? Is that what you'd
prefer to see here?
Plus, what if a suspended member re-appears? How are we supposed
to re-create the discussions?

ToS is precisely the place to discuss this. It is closed for
guests because guests have no business reading our discussions
about how the forum should be run.
The said thread was closed by the moderator, but thank you very
much for your concern.
1. Yes, if I wanted to close this joint I could do it.
2. This won't change. If you disagree, you're free to refrain
from posting.
3. We don't really have ToS so no wonder there is not much
specified there.
Thank you again, for your concern, Aliph.

Sometimes, during times of crisis it is always better to explain
in an explicit way things that seem obvious. Raising them up
isn’t a sign of disagreement.
For point 1 it is good to point out that we are in a way
tributaries to the ADMIN who theoretically can do what she/he
wants without consulting anybody.
Regarding point 2, I was so used to Italki where posts desappear
after somebody is banned that I thought that it was automatic on
any site. I can see the utility to keep the posts visible.

1. It is impossible to delete a forum here. Period. But there
are ways so if I wanted to, I could do this. I could do a lot of
things - just as italki or any service provider for that matter
could screw you over in a number of ways.
2. It is not the way it is done. Italki is an exception - I
suspect the primary reason behind this is simply poor design and
not thinking things through before coding the site. And later
on, simple inertia.
