When I was 23 years old, more than 30 years ago now. aha!
I met a British man at the library. We were very good friends at
first. But every time he corrected my pronunciation R and L. I
was irritated. And I stopped going to the library. We didn't
have cell phones or computers in those days.
One month later, I got a letter from him. He seemed to ask my
address the librarian. It wasn't a big thing to tell the
individual information to others. If it was today, the librarian
would be reported. Anyway, I didn't reply or go back to the
library.
If I had met him again, would I have had another life?

Yes, I do a lot. Japanese grammar is very much different from
English. "I read a book" in English becomes "I a book read" in
Japanese. And Japanese don't have stress or rhythm. So Japanese
people tend to speak English like a robot speaks.
More than that, Japanese people really don't express their
feeling. I don't know why. Maybe because we are humble, polite
and patient. But I don't think that being patient is always
good. Sometimes we need to stand up, resist and express our
thought.
A book "Japanese people who can't say no" became a bestseller 20
years ago.
Then people got to say anything what they want to do. But they
were just complaining selfish and arrogant.
Drawing a line between "being selfish" and "claiming properly"
needs deep thinking.

I have something recorded but it's in Spanish.
@Allie No, I'm not sure what you mean. Maybe it's a regional
thing. In some regions in Poland, people sound more melodic.

Well, I don't know whether your life's been more or less happy,
but you certainly would have led a miserable life with a husband
who felt the need to correct your English before you'd even
become more than acquaintances. Talk about being impolite!

No, too many shootings for me. I don't even go to Warsaw which
is not that far - too many politicians per capita, you know.

Allie, Grzybek - done. Go to "voice recordings" under Cultural
M. I used vocaroo, because I'm an IT-idiot and wouldn't be able
to record anything anywhere else.
Chizuko, what you wrote didn't sound at all like a radio talk!

Of course, there might be a problem with first thinking through
whether you want to say "no" because you're selfish or because
it's important: the right moment to raise your voice may already
have passed when you've finally made your decision. ;)
