       Paradise Lost

The bad news just keeps piling up for our
Marxist/Socialist/Communist friend SHL. Earlier this year he
expended thousands of words bloviating his nauseating and
ignorant propaganda about the glories of living in Cuba { or
Cuber if you're from Boston }. Being a Marxist just ain't what
it used to be, is it Steve? Well, actually it's great for you.
You can sit in the lap of luxury in the state of California and
spout hog crap about how awful the US is and how glorious the
standard of living in Cuba is. It's easy to talk the talk but
not walk the walk. If you had the courage of your convictions,
you'd be on the next plane to Havana.

       Jerry
I don`t like the words „Marxist“ or „Communist“ that much
because these words have been dragged through the mud so often,
that when you say them people immediately think of Soviet
gulags, Mao and Pol Pot. Pretty nasty things and people like
that. I don`t support those types or gulags. Please.
Socialism is a more reasonable word, even though it´s taken a
       battering too.
I don`t know why today is national „let`s-get-on-Steve“ day.
Hum. Neal has to join in too with his horror stories from some
rag he dug up off the internet.
It´s reminds me of that Credence Clearwater Revival Song,
       „Fortunate Son.“
„Some folks are born, made to wave the flag, oh they´re red
       white and blue,
But when the band plays `Hail to the Chief` ohh they`re pointing
       the cannon at you Lord...
       It ain`t me, it ain`t me, I ain`t no senator`s son, son,
It ain`t me, it ain`t men, I ain`t no fortunate one, no.
„Some people are born, silver spoon in hand,
Lord, don`t they help themselves, oh
But when the taxman comes to the door, Lord the house looks like
       a rummage sale..
       „It ain`t me, it ain`t me. I ain`t no millionaire`s son, no
It ain`t me, it ain`t me, I ain`t no fortunate one, no..
       „Some folks inherit star-spangled eyes,
Ohh, they send you down to war, Lord
And when they ask, `how much should we give?`
Ooh, they only answer more, more, more..
       „It ain`t me, it ain`t me. I ain`t no military son
It ain`t me, it ain`t me, I ain`t no fortunate one, one
       „It ain`t me, it ain`t me, I ain`t me. I ain`t no fortunate one,
       no, no, no..
It ain`t me, it ain`t me. I ain`t no fortunate son, no, no,
       no.......“
So, someone is pointing the cannon at me it feels (you`re
partially to blame too Neal...shame on you).

"Fortunate Son" transmorgrifies into a "Stop picking on me"
       whine? Amazing.
Once again you are sidestepping the question. Marxism,
Communism, Socialism, whatever you want to call it - it is only
causing misery. And Cuba is sinking fast.

Well, I wouldn`t be to quick to write off Cuba just yet. The`ve
lasted 60 years as of the the first of this year, so that`s not
bad as a track record. So, if they just start doing things our
way, we can then be nice to them? Is that how it works? That´s a
       pretty imperialistic philosophy.
You know Neal, I was watching some German YouTube documentary
the other night on the old Soviet supersonic jet. I forgot the
name of it, but you recall, it was like the Concorde? They were
pretty progressive planes, ahead of their time and all, but
ultimately big flops. The Concorde was a flop as was its Soviet
       counterpart.
Anyway, I couldn’t help but wonder how the Soviets, with this
supposedly terrible economic system and gulags and all of that
could come up with a supersonic transport that would rival the
Western versions of the same plane (actually the Soviet one was
not that great, but not a bad attempt)? I mean, how did they
manage that? Made me wonder. I don`t know, but somehow even
those guys had things going fairly well for awhile. Under your
theories, they should have fallen apart years before.
I do have to say Neal, you`ve got a great English vocabulary.
Where did you come up with that word „transmorgify“? I had to
look that one up in my German translator to understand it, since
I`ve never heard that word before. So, it means umwandeln, or
verwandeln.....like to convert into, change into, transform
into, and has a sort of humorous ring to it? Those German words
are easy. But, „transmorgify“? Strange word. I`m trying to think
if I ever heard it before, but I can`t say I have. Someone
started a thread asking of you can lose your native language or
forget bits of it, or words. Maybe that`s it, but that one was a
new one on me I`m pretty sure.
But back to your point. I`ve heard all the arguments. „Socialism
has never worked in any country.“ Or „It`s been responsible for
the deaths of millions in the 20th Century, etc.“ I understand
all those claims, which are usually countered by „It was never
really applied properly or implemented properly.“ I used to hear
that old debate back in the late 70s. Think about it this way.
If you could conceptualize the world as a family, a human
family, where everyone more or less helped one another, took
care of each other, that`s sort of the guiding principle. Not
necessarily that we don`t account for individual differences,
but that we are kind to one another and make sure no one goes
without a roof over his head, or food to eat, or medical care
and so on, even if the person lacks ambition, is not brilliant,
and so on. It´s a bit like that. That´s why socialism has had
the appeal it`s had over the years. It´s sort of a humanitarian
philosophy. See, capitalism`s answer to taking care of the poor
and homeless is just charity. „Well, we just only have to rely
on the churches, and charities and they`ll take care of the
downtrodden and underprivileged. That`s their job.“ The problem
with that is, that doesn`t always happen, or not reliably.
That`s why socialist principles have lasted as long as they
have. You can point to a few old buildings in Havana in need of
new plumbing, or look at Venezuela, but I heard that Equador and
Bolivia are socialist countries, or socialist-leaning, and
they`re not hitting the skids. And you keep going on about Cuba,
but look at the tremendous pressure they´ve had to endure. The
US has not exactly ever been a friendly neighbor.

       Transmorgrify
transform, especially in a surprising or magical manner
to change or alter greatly and often with grotesque or humorous
       effect
Didn't you ever read "Calvin and Hobbes"?

And this is why it fails. It sounds good and appeals at first,
just like Sudeep said. And eventually it turns and devours.
Communism has forgotten the heart of man, his propensity for
evil, to raise himself up at the expense of others. It is the
tower of Babbel that man builds, not the fields of Utopia.
I am not for capitalism, I am for freedom. Freedom under the
rule of a minimum of laws and interference, laws that are
designed to bring even more choice and opportunity. I will find
my way, I will bring my people with me. Set me FREE!

Transmorgify is verwandeln, meaning to transform with the
indication it is used in a humorous, especially surprising way.
Dict.CC is good translator, but it`s not like a Websters since
it supposedly user contributed. But It`s pretty good.
You sound like you are preaching saying you are for freedom.
Freedom from minimum wage laws? Why? And bringing your people
with you? Who might they be? You want to pay people $1 an hour?
That`s just like saying you don`t care about your workers
welfare, sort of like 18th century America. How moral is that?

Steve, the Concorde was NOT a FLOP. The Concorde was the first
SST { Super Sonic Transport }. It was built jointly by the
French government and the Brits. It was taken out of service
after its ONE and ONLY crash. This was due to many reasons.
Anyone interested in those reasons research it. I don't want to
       reinvent the wheel.
The Soviets did what they always do when they produced their
version of the Concorde, they stole the designs.
I've spent a lot of years around aircraft. What other myth would
you like to push? Maybe that some unknown, Germanic hero was the
first to fly, beating the Wright Bros?
