News from South Africa no one is talking abou
By: NealC Date: December 9, 2018, 9:21 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
"South Africa has set a date for when its much-criticised land
expropriations can begin after a politician declared: "Your time
       is up, white people".
The country’s National Assembly approved a proposal to change
the constitution to make the so-called reforms legal in a vote
       of 183 to 77.
This paves the way for land to be taken from farmers without
       giving any kind of compensation.
And now lawmakers have agreed to set up a committee that will
write and introduce a new bill for land expropriations.
A deadline of the end of March next year for the committee to
present its first report to parliament has also been agreed."
Zimbabwe 2 here we come. Except this time you have 5 million
Boers, armed, and with ample warning. They have a long history
of self defense and they cannot get out, an exit permit costs
about $100000. This is not a recipe for peaceful transfer.
This is going to be a bloodbath while the US and EU, crippled
with white guilt, stand by and do nothing. They are doing
nothing now, including the loudmouth idiot in charge in
Washington. And when it is all over the richest country in
Africa will lie in dust and ashes, the people squatting and
       starving on once productive farmland.
I suppose it it just TIA. Africa, who cares.

I had not heard anything about this at all. I have no idea the
size of the plots that will be taken away.
Neal, have you watched ¨Explained¨ episode 1, the salary gap,
in Netflix? I was surprised to learn some history I did not
know about the United States. Just before Lincoln was
assassinated, there was a plan to give every freed slave 40
acres of land. The documentary indicated Lincoln supported it
and it was expected to pass. But it was controversial because
it took the land away from white people. Under the next
President, Andrew Jackson, it was not put into place. The
documentary is interesting in talking about some of the policies
that have affected the gap in wealth between whites and blacks
in the U.S. (although the title is deceptive because they really
talk much more about disparity of wealth than disparity of
income.) I would imagine there were concerns after the civil
war about what the effect would be of a policy of taking land
from whites and giving it to blacks, similar to what you have
       stated.

       Neal,
Did you get that from one of your right-right crayon coloring
newpapers, like you accuse the PLS of printing? I never heard
       that anywhere?
No one is talking about it because it`s probably not true.

       @Susan
I think that plan evolved into "40 acres and a mule" which
offered land ownership to anyone who would move to the new
territories in the U.S.. It was always about Federally owned
land in the west, although I am sure certain Radicals who wanted
the south punished would not have minded splitting the big
       plantations in that way.
Johnson was after Lincoln and he did not have Lincoln's strength
       or political skill.
South Africa does have land ownership issues but these farms
have been in family hands for generations, descendants of the
original pioneers. The blacks living in South Africa are mostly
the descendants of migrants who came for work or shelter from
violence in the north. The original natives were mostly wiped
out by smallpox hundreds of years ago. My point is the current
black population have even less of a claim for the land than
       American Indians.
The west can come up matching funds to help buy out these
farmers at a fair price, end the exit taxes, and offer asylum to
those who want to leave. It would be far cheaper than what is
       on the horizon.

Steven (and Neal), here is something interesting about it:
  HTML https://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/land-expropriation-must-be-handled-with-great-care-warns-ifps-buthelezi-20181209-2
But, Neal, assuming you were the POTUS, what exactly would you
suggest? Sending in troups (from where?) to defend the farmers'
       rights?
Be honest, please: if your land were in South Africa, wouldn't
you have got out long ago? Wasn't it clear from the start, i.e.
when Apartheid ended, that at some point the issue of land
distribution would have to be addressed? In view of the fact
that the overwhelming majority of South Africans are black, but
most of the land is owned by white people?

Sorry, Neal, we must have clicked "post" at pretty much the same
       moment.
Your suggestion sounds brilliant. Unfortunately, I can't see any
government putting it forth. Can you?
Where did you get the "exit tax" from? Is wikipedia outdated, or
       am I missing something here?

       @shl
It does not surprise me in the least that you have not heard
about this, current events wise you have your head so far up
your own behind you can still smell breakfast. Most of the news
sources you read could not care less about injustice happening
to white people, as they probably somehow deserve it. The new
president in South Africa has been in charge for about a year,
this has been going on for at least 6 months.
       @Alharacas
Land purchase by the government and redistribution from there
was the promise in the 90's, it has not materialized due to
corruption and mismanagement. Not to mention the fact that the
Mandela government sold out to the Corporations faster than a 2
dollar wh ore. The pressure on White Farmers is the high exit
permit cost and the low amount of wealth you can remove from the
country ($10000.00) if you don't have the proper documentation.
I read the article you cite, the guy is misusing terms.
"Eminent Domain" is the Government condemnation of private land
for public use accompanied by proper compensation.
"Expropriation" is the condemnation of private land without
proper compensation. But he is right, they start stealing land
and you can say "Goodbye" to international investment.
If I were President I would say un-categorically that
expropriation cannot stand, especially that which is motivated
by race or religion and if South Africa continues on this path
they can expect no US Aid. I would advance from there (if
necessary) to recognizing the rights of South African farmers to
sue in US Courts, freezing of South African assets to pay court
decisions, and an array of economic and trade sanctions.
Apartheid cannot be paid for with the blood and treasure of this
       new generation.
Then I would get together with the rest of the G20 and set up a
program to purchase the land at proper valuation, and in turn
sell it to blacks who wish to farm. The land can be sold at
below market rates with low interest loans but the new owners
must have 'skin in the game'. Otherwise they will strip the
land, sell the assets, and leave a wasteland like they did in
Zimbabwe as well as engender a feeling among the people that
they too deserve a government handout.
The South African government will be forced to allow people to
leave who want to leave and G20 nations would grant asylum in
       proportionate amounts.
There, that is my plan. I await constructive critique :-)

This is the problem Alharacas, this is exactly where the US
should be taking the lead, going to the UN, talking to the EU
and even getting Russia and China involved.
Watching the eulogies about G. Bush senior, even if you didn't
like him or his politics you have to grant him that creating a
coalition of worldwide support against Iraq for invading Kuwait
(and then showing restraint in victory) was an inspired bit of
leadership. Clinton dropped the ball in Mogadishu and Rwanda
(and if you listen to Katrina, in Serbia too). Bush jr led the
coalition of the paid off. Obama couldn't build consensus if it
were made out of tinker toys.
Now here in the US we have a buffoon, who is now going to face
charges that he paid off his mistresses brought by other
buffoons and serial adulterers in the Congress. Outside the
       world is burning.
It frustrates me to hell and back.
