I don`t see Reagan having had anything to do with it.

Just when I think you've said the dumbest thing
imaginable...here you come again with something so absurd that's
it's not even laughable. It's not even pathetic. It's so
patently ignorant and stupid that one can only shake one's head
and click to another topic. How do you come up with this stuff?

I just mentioned your beloved Trump who said the USSR went
bankrupt over Afghanistan and that caused the country to come
down. I`m just quoting your guy in the White House.
So, what did Ray Gun do to bring down the USSR in your opinion?
The one who was president at the time and coming apart at the
seams and senile at the time.

Who do you think approved the covert weapons shipments of air to
ground missiles that brought down so many Soviet helicopters,
and all the other weapons that armed the Mujahedin?
Hint: It wasn't Carter...

Carter was a man of peace. Not like Reagan.

Nice side step, you dancing the Rhumba?
Non-responsive. Try to answer the question.

Neal, I`m not a military historian here. I do know Carter was a
good man and Reagan was a warmonger.
It`s a real shame that California had to produce someone like
Reagan. And, didn`t you get tired of Nancy with all her Just
say no drugs babble?

Neal, you aren't going to tell me you were not cheering for the
Mujahedin at the time, are you?

No, I was glad of it but we looked at the world in rather
simplistic terms back then. I was in college when it was going
on, nose to the grindstone, no TV News, I came up for air for
the Falklands War but that was about it.
My point was that the reasons behind the fall of the Soviet
Union may have been multifaceted, but to say that Reagans
policies had nothing to do with it is willful historical
ignorance.
The covert weapons policy that helped make Afghanistan an open
Russian sore was just one example.

But giving Reagan credit for anything is absurd. He killed more
people due to his refusal to adequately respond to the AIDS
epidemic through denial and lack of government funding than the
total of men who died in the Vietnam War.

Steve, that's childish. You don't look at a life and say, he
did something bad, therefore the good things he did must be
ignored. How ridiculous.
Just the same you should not defend countries who are
totalitarian cess pits just because they are socialist. George
Orwell was a socialist. He wrote "Animal Farm" and "1984" to
warn against and criticize the propensity to totalitarianism in
socialist regimes.

Neal,
I know what you are saying. Itīs the common, socialism leads to
poverty and then to totalitarianism argument.
I understand your point, but pointing to Cuba, the USSR or
Venezuela or any other socialist country is just a crude
analysis. Itīs much more multi-faceted than that. In fact, itīs
debatable whether the USSR was even a socialist country in
itself, in spite of the fact it called itself that.
Look at all the capitalist countries that have fallen into
abject poverty (Nigeria, Haiti, and the list can go on and on)
as well as ended up with totalitarianism. Honduras is just one
of many examples. Pinochet was a capitalist dictator, and a
right-winger supported by the US, but it would be silly to just
conclude that Chile fell into the state it was once in under
Pinochet due to capitalism. To say capitalism always leads to
poverty and totalitarianism is plain ridiculous, if you point to
these examples. Itīs just too simplistic an analysis. And,
you`re a smart enough guy (seriously) to know that.
