       Vegan Pig Ears

I went to the pet shop today to get some treats for our puppies.
Did you know that a 75g bag of posh dog snacks is almost as
expensive as a dinner for three people? Anyway, it's the ears I
wanted to talk about. Some people might find it disgusting but
dogs eat dried pig ears. I don't think it's a big deal, they
enjoy it and there's no food waste that way, it's a win-win
situation. However, today I saw some strange looking dried ears
at the shop. They all looked the same. They were just too
perfect. Turned out they were vegan pig ears. VEGAN PIG EARS??!
       Just WHY?

A cynic would say that all pet food is essentially vegan because
you can't really call meat what they put in there. But I find
       such remarks abhorrent.

The expensive ones have 90% meat in them. They're basically
biltong for dogs. I guess that's why they're so expensive.

Two things: 1. What is a biltong? 2. Have you ever heard the
phrase "The only thing that goes to waste on a pig is the oink"
Vegan pig ears sound like something you'd find in trendy parts
of Los Angeles. Ridiculous unless a dog has special dietary
       needs.

Apparently, there used to be an old Greek proverb (mentioned by
Platon, no less) "Like mistress, like ****".
And since dogs have allergies these days, need and get physio-
and psychotherapy, why wouldn't there be vegan dogfood? ;D
Edited: "Like mistress, like b*tch (i.e. female dog)". Grr.

Truman, biltong is the South African version of jerky. It's a
lot juicier though, like a chewy chunk or slice of steak. I used
to buy it at Wimbledon Station in London. Lots of South Africans
live around there. For more information:

And yes, I've heard that before and I agree. Luckily, expensive
restaurants tend to serve all the animal parts no one used to
want to eat, as a delicacy these days. And pretentious people
who wouldn't eat those at home go and stuff their faces. I
personally like various "unpopular" bits like tripe, tongue or
trotters. I think it's because I got to try them as a kid, long
before I knew what they were.

       @Alharacas
... and dog clothes, let's not forget those. Somehow, style
       matters when you're a dog.
       @Dr Lecter
Dr Lecter wouldn't find an artificial ear sufficient? ;)
