You must be a big hit at gun shows too.

I’ve been friends with a Grzegorz for almost ten years and I’ve
given up saying his name right long, long ago.
@Neal
I’ve always wanted to know about guns.
You learned playing games?

Some, about military weapons anyway. In games that recreate
small unit tactics the weapons the soldiers are armed with is a
big part of the game.

Good to know. It may be a stereotype, but board games seem to be
part of the American culture or, at least, they are extremely
popular.
I had a friend who used to import them to Brazil and sell them
online. They had nothing to do with the ones we had (which are
basically Monopoly, Detective, chess and checkers). Those were
way more complex and he even mentioned they could be used to
learn or develop some sorts of skills. We even had a workshop
about it at uni. Unfortunately, I was in a French workshop and
missed the whole thing.

Board games are definitely big here, but they are big in Europe
too from what I hear. We sell a lot of what are called
"European Style" boardgames.
It is an interesting cultural phenomenon. In American
boardgames (think Monopoly or Risk) competition is king so you
start with a group of people and slowly people fall out of the
game as they lose. In European board games the social aspect is
king. Everyone plays until the end, often scoring is not done
at all until the last round. Much more fun for adults.
But the weapons thing is more in military miniatures games,
where realism is the most important consideration.

Yes, there are board games here too.
I played Scrabble for the first time in Ireland (it was fun).
But, not having been raised here, it's not something I could
comment much about.
I am used to see board games more as a child thing, so as an
adult I just tend to naturally steer away from them. I even felt
guilty for liking Scrabble. Of course, it's just nonsense, but
sometimes we have these cultural prejudices

???
Of course, I can see how it would feel a bit weird or unusual to
see adults playing games and to play them yourself if you didn't
grow up with it, but feeling guilty for liking it?

@Alharacas
Please don’t take the things I say that seriously. I tend to go
for a dramatic choice of words (maybe it’s the Greek blood) even
though I am pretty blasé in real life.
Maybe “slightly embarrassed” would express it better.
Shortly after I had played scrabble for the first time, I was
talking to a friend and I suggested we played it. Words were not
necessary, just by the look I got from them it was enough to
know what they were thinking and it was something along the
lines “Are you 5 now?”
Mentally I started browsing my memory for every film scene or
book reference where I could picture adults playing scrabble as
a way to reassure myself.
I know it’s stupid, unnecessary and ridiculous, but it’s a
different attitude towards things. Usually, just chess is
considered “an adult game”.

Interesting. What else? Cards, presumably?
In Galicia, lots of people like to play Dominoes. And in the
little town in Turkey where I was on holiday once, everybody
(well, all the men) played Backgammon, Tavla, all the time.

I was talking about board games, but yes, cards can be seen as
adult game.
Checkers and dominoes are "elderly" games. When I hear dominoes
(and I do not think about the pizza), I always imagine elders
playing dominoes at a square.
If we are in a country house, on a rainy day, and there's no
internet connection or TV, we become more flexible though.
