Reason: if everything even faintly smacking of controversy is
only visible to registered users, how will we get more members?
People usually have a look around before registering, don't
they?

I think it was only made hidden because KS was concerned that
some might not comment if they were afraid their comments would
become public.
I'm fine with it public.

Somehow the reply I thought I posted is not here.
Is there a way to change my vote- I misread it and meant I
definitely prefer having it private for members. And
understanding what I do of social psychology, with the first
both being ¨definitely¨, mine also counting that way, and now
Neal agreeing-- the voting is probably tainted and people will
be less inclined to say no, do not make it visible.
The reason I prefer this one private is even when I considered
asking my teacher about posting the audios, I considered whether
his government would ever start searching the web and punishing
criticizers. I want people to feel a little safer criticizing
their own governments (as well as others).
If we make the world events section public, could we also have a
private section where we can move a thread to or start threads
that we know are not going to stay public for God Knows How
Long. I remember seeing a ¨Way Back Machine¨ that could show
what web pages looked like in the past that do not even exist.
It seems like this a group no one would ever care about coming
after, but the really public stuff gets catalogued. Right now
some employers do a quick Google search to see what people post
online. I expect in the future some employers will hire special
consultants to make a dossier that is a little more
sophisticated. I do not expect to be anything other than self
employed, but I think the quality of posts often goes up when
people feel safer.

Susan, you should definitely be able to change your vote, as I
ticked the box to include this option.
So, you'd vote "Maybe", wouldn't you? Because actually, I think
we'd all prefer for posts to be moved rather than removed,
right?

I am fine with the way it is. Some parts visible, more sensitive
parts not (whatever they may be)
I don’t think there’s anything I say here that I wouldn’t stand
up for. Of course, not everything is serious and not everybody
gets that, but what can I do? Things are not that different in
the real word.

I think it is OK that some parts of EGP stay private. I do not
like too much that what I write is read by people that I do not
know and are just lurking.
Besides, I think there is a lot written about other members of
italki, what would they say if they knew that we are according
them so much importance ?

I'm for keeping it private. I don't even like how big a part of
the forum is public already.

I vote for the board to stay as it is in terms of privacy. I'm
sure that I've written things that I wouldn't want the whole
world to see. In fact, I've written things relying on the fact
that the whole world is not seeing it and will never see it.
If it goes wide open I would immediately delete my account.

more attractive to people like Seth, for example.
