Hotmail, Skype, Outlook anyone?
By: the lost minion Date: September 29, 2018, 12:11 pm

As I am a suspicious person, I got suspicious once again and
decided to log out from all devices and change my password.
Imagine my surprise when it turned out I can't - there is no
such option. And here is a post of a chick who took some more
time to investigate this:
HTML https://medium.com/@securehope/hotmail-hacked-microsoft-has-no-solution-to-remotely-force-close-open-sessions-91d4bc7c3756
For those who don't realize this: logging out of all devices and
changing the password is the simplest thing you can do when you
realize your account has been/might have been compromised. So,
Microsoft doesn't offer it. LOL and facepalm.
In skype theoretically exists something like chat commands:
/remotelogout Stops push notifications on all other instances
of Skype except the current one.
HTML https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA10042/what-cloud-based-chat-commands-and-roles-are-available-in-skype
But of course... it no longer works. Facepalm - at the risk of
repeating myself.

I do. With all my heart. Especially for Windows 10. It's a
marvel if you care at least a bit about your privacy. Did I say
marvel? I meant nightmare.

I actually have a piece of software installed on every computer
on the network at work that makes it impossible to switch to
windows 10. It can happen without the operator really knowing
what is going on.
Saved a lot of misery.

This might be a little off-topic, but I did have a question. I
have three email accounts, an old AOL account I`ve had since
around 1998 or something (yeah I know the local joke is „no one
under 80 has AOL anymore. Are you out of your mind?“), a yahoo
account I use for work, and a new gmail account. I actually set
up the gmail account for this site, and it`s got a very unusual
user name I borrowed from a German guy I listen to on YouTube,
who uses it because he records illegal solicitors, wastes their
time, and then gives them phony bank account info, and posts the
calls on his YouTube page. Cold calling, as we call it in the
US, is illegal in Germany unless you have prior contact with the
company or request the call (unlike in the US, where I wish we
had this rule because I get about 10 unsolicited cold calls per
day by people I`ve never heard of, trying to sell me something,
anything). This German guy, who calls himself „callcenter fun“
on YouTube is pretty funny, which is why I listen to him. He
usually gets the unauthorized callers laughing after wasting a
half hour or more of their time. He always gets their consent to
record the call too. They call trying to pawn off magazine
subscriptions, anything, making all sorts of fake claims, like
he won big money, or a free vacation somewhere. One call was
especially funny where he told the woman caller he`d go on the
vacation to Spain only if she went with him. She laughed and
said she wasn’t that kind of girl, to which he said, „well, I`ll
guarantee you I`m not ugly. However, I`ll admit I`m not the
penultimate in looks either. I`d say I`m a good middle (or
average)“. So anyway, I used his email address for gmail, but I
had to add a few numbers to get it to work because the address,
though rather strange looking to English speakers, is already in
use without the numbers.
But, the question is: for some weird reason my AOL and Yahoo
emails have turned into nothing but spam folders. All the in-box
stuff I get is pure spam and I thought these accounts had spam
filters on them? I wind up deleting and marking as spam about 25
messages per day, which always are the duplicate spam in BOTH
AOL and Yahoo. It´s really weird. Sometimes even regular
messages don`t even get through, but the SAME spam email gets
through 5 times. Do you guys think both accounts got hacked?
This never occurs with the new gmail account.
Should I close these accounts down?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Well, it all boils down to how strict those filters are. There
are a couple of levels of protection (some spam messages don't
get through at all, some land in the SPAM folder, and some land
in your inbox). They can't set the strictest option because this
could filter out legitimate messages. Or maybe they just have
crappy filters - I don't know. Anyway, this is something you as
a user have no control over. You can only mark as spam all the
junk that got through to your inbox.
Should you get rid of them? Gmail certainly has good spam
filters. But there are other ways to deal with spam - email
forwarding:

Hacked? Hacking has nothing to do with it. Maybe you posted your
email somewhere? You generally shouldn't do this. Enterprises
sell data to third parties and websites are routinely scraped
for data, so any mail that you posted on the internet may end up
looking like one big junkyard.
However, ff you are afraid that your email may have been
compromised, you can look it up here:
HTML https://haveibeenpwned.com/
It's a legit site that has a database of known compromised
accounts.
Also, Mozilla announced a new feature:
