VERBLING a great resource for language learners
DIR By: Aliph

As some of you know I was kicked out from Italki and the lessons
I had booked in advance were canceled (I still am waiting for a
refund).
One of my teachers is on Verbling, an American website that has
is own platform (based on a Chrome extension).. I had my first
two lessons with two different persons since I found another
acquaintance on the website. One teacher wanted to stick to Zoom
and it was OK. The other used the Verbling App and it was great.
He hasn’t a fabulous internet connection when he uses Skype but
it was OK on Verbling.
There is also the possibility to make flash cards with the new
vocabulary.
Unfortunately one of my favorite teachers doesn’t or can’t come
over to the new place.
I miss her a lot and it’s impossible to find a solution.
So if some “honorable members” who never got kicked out from
Italki would write to support@italki.com and plead my cause, I
would be very grateful to them.

There are no honorable members here, Zenobia. It's EGP.
What about creating another account? Have you tried it? Just set
it up and book the lessons. Don't plead with them. You don't
need to.

The problem is the payment. Cannot have a credit card with a
fake name (danger of money laundering). All my family members
have the same family name and since I am an indipendent person I
hate asking friends to “lend me “ their credit card.
Any other idea?

Just give them money to their payPal or a bank account and ask
them to buy you the italki credits you need. Besides, I bet a
lot of people have your name; they can't possibly block each and
every one of them. To be safe try to ask a friend to buy the
credits (not to give you their card data, of course not).
There were also gifts at italki at some point - you could give
credits to another user. So to use that, set up a fake account
and get a gift from a real account your friend/family member had
made.
There are also anonymous credit cards. I haven't used them, this
is the one Kevin Mitnick recommends in his book on online
privacy; you can check it out:

Neal also said something about his store.

Does it necessarily have to be a credit card? I have purchased
online courses with debit cards with no problem.

No, they take credit and debit cards, no difference. But it
doesn't solve Aliph's problem.
Also, the link I gave above is for anonymous prepaid cards, not
credit cards, obviously.

Well, it does. She can pay the money to one of her friends in
advance and then uses the debit card under their name charged
with the same amount of money.
This way she wouldn't need to ask people to "lend" them their
credit card. And she doesn't need to worry about her friend's
credit card charged for renewal and blah blah blah.

Are we talking about the same thing? I use a debit card for
subscriptions and the like and they sure can charge for renewal
how many times and how much they want. It just won't exceed the
amount of money I have on the account. That's the main
difference here. So the money can be stolen just as well.

I don't know. Are we?
Maybe I have something else in mind. Correct me if I'm wrong,
but once you have a credit card, you can buy stuff even when
your balance becomes negative. You just get indebted to the bank
and you should repay the money later. With a debit card, if you
do not have sufficient funds in your card, you cannot buy
anything with it.
So, if you have your credit card information stored in your
e-wallet on an online website, and your settings allow them to
charge your credit card for monthly/yearly renewals, they will
charge you which is to be repaid later. If you have a debit
card, and you do not have enough money in your card for renewal,
they cannot do sh*t with your card. You can charge your debit
card for one-time use of their service and pay it to your friend
in advance and that's it.
