       What If English Were Phonetically Consistent?
   DIR By: Allie

       Do you hate English pronunciation? Do you think it makes no
       sense? This is how it would be if English were phonetically
       consistent.
  HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8zWWp0akUU&t=19s
       Do you like how it sounds?
       Is it any better?

       Funny, but they miss the point: the pronunciation could stay;
       only some letters need to be added to the alphabet.
       But seriously, I don't understand what's the big deal. There are
       general rules to it, right? One just needs to learn them. That's
       it.

       @Allie
       What language do you speak? What’s so great about how it sounds?
       As to spelling, forget trying to make sense of any of it. It’s a
       waste of time. The spellings are just totally random. I learned
       to spell by just visual memory. Does it look right? That’s the
       only way to do it because it otherwise is impossible to
       formulate rules about it.

       Hahaha, I don’t think this video is intended to be taken
       seriously.
       But you may struggle more or less with pronunciation in English
       depending on your native language.
       I think it’s normal when you are learning a language (especially
       if it’s your first foreign one) to compare it to your own or to
       other languages you know (What if all letters were pronounced in
       French? / What if German didn’t have declensions? / What if
       Spanish had less conjugations?), but you overcome this kind of
       thing as you get more and more used to it.
       @Frog Lady
       Have no idea about rules. I just got used to both spelling and
       pronunciation and I definitely make mistakes.
       “Donegal” and “Sligo” are always a problem.
       @SHL
       My native language definitely doesn’t sound great. Especially
       not in my accent.

       Ops, forgot to add. I actually like the way English sounds.
       I do have favourite accents, but in general, I don't think it is
       "ugly".
       As for the version spoken in the video I am happy people don't
       speak like that.
       It sounds a lot like people starting to learn English.

       Like I said, forget spelling rules. There really are none. You
       just have to memorize the spelling.

       Well, I flushed all of this from my memory, but I'm pretty sure
       there is a rule that says that single vowels between consonants
       are pronounced as short sounds if there is no other vowel after
       the last consonant (lid as opposed to like), that you pronounce
       apple the way you do because it is followed by double pp, not
       like in ape, stuff like that. There are rules, guys. Don't make
       me look it up, I don't feel like it.

       Nah. Nevermind.
       I think I learned something like that at school many years ago,
       but haven't thought about it in years, so I probably won't start
       now

       I'm looking forward to the time that Spanish becomes lingua
       franca. It sounds a lot better than English.

       Funny video indeed. Pronunciation in English is just harder than
       in many languages.
       French is also boring, especially when there are similar words.
       I never know how to write onions (= oignons) when I make a
       grocery list, I have to look it up on the dictionary.
       Spanish as a lingua Franca would be great.
