TV cigarette ads were banned beginning Jan. 1st, 1970 in the US.
I remember them well on TV.

I didnt think you were that old, Truman?

I'm 57 in two months. My youthful good looks fool everyone. :D

       @Jerry
Well, wait till the AARP puts you their mailing list and asks
you to join with the other „seniors“. And, at 57 you`re eligible
for all those retirement communities where the earliest age is
       55.
And you are definitely in grandpa territory. Time for the
prostate check and the colonoscopy too to the age factor.
       @NealC
And, you are definitely like me, a 1970s and 80s type guy, so
you’re at least 60. And if by clean living you were referring to
yourself, you`re not living a clean life as a chicken killer.

I think the point Pasha is that it is a slippery slope, more
surrender of our freedom to the government. If the government
decides you should only eat green eggs and ham it cam then set
up taxes and fines to make it happen.
It is not for the government to decide what is the good thing or
the right thing for me and my family. I dont need a nanny.
Why is everyone so willing to hand their freedom over to the
nanny state? Everything you had to them never comes back, and
only leads to the next confiscation.
       [/quote]
Never would have taken you of all people for a staunch supporter
of the "Legalize It!" movement, Neal. :D
What I mean to say is - aren't we forgetting that taxing, fining
and making sales illegal is (and has always been) rather
       arbitrary, isn't it?
Just look at the Prohibition in the US, look at how opium and
cocaine used to be sold over the counter in Europe and the US
until well into the 20th century. Look at all the countries
where all kinds of things are legally sold which are prohibited
as drugs in Europe and the US.
Nothing to do with the nanny state, it's all a question of
either what's considered normal in a culture (hashish, opium,
cocaine), or about who gets the upper hand: government or big
       business (nicotine, alcohol, sugar).

I understand your argument, where do I draw the line and how do
       I draw it logically.
Drugs and alcohol have definite public consequences, there is
the basis for legislation. But that logic leaves open things
like tobacco, sugar, and fats, which in a world where the public
pays for health insurance the public gains an interest in what I
       put into my body.
So how do you draw the line? Without clear definition of what
and why it is my business we leave our entire lives open to
       regulation.

One never should biased! I was avoiding this thread since I
resent everything which comes from China or even mentions
       anything related to it.
Now I randomly browsed through the last posts where Jerry, Neal,
SHL were speaking publicly about their age. How interesting.
Conclusion: here on EGP the titles of the threads could easily
be substituted by numbers. After a couple of posts the comments
are off topic anyway. So if you do not want to miss important
information you have to read them all.

One can be debonair even after 60. I suggest that you all invite
us to your sixthiest birthday, if we still are in contact
       through EGP by then
