       They call me  “ Ma’am” ::)

       I can’t stand it ;D ::)
I understand that is supposed to be respectful way to address a
female but I don’t like it.
Is it really necessarily for showing respect? Obviously, they
       do this as I’m a captain’s wife.
Is it only me who are not happy to be “ Ma’am”? I’m ok with
       “madam” though.
       Thank you
       ——-
It reminded me a story happened with me when I worked at Viking
Cruises with my husband. He used to be the first mate then. One
day I came to the Captain Bridge and was asked by one of the
sailors if I wanted to have coffee. He was 23, I was 26. And he
addressed me as “ aunt Natasha “. This is how he showed his
respect ( Russian children call adults “ aunt + name” or “ uncle
       + name).
There were many people at the Captain Bridge and they laughed
to a cry. One guy, who is an owner of a few river boats now and
our friend, calls me “ aunt Natasha “ since that time as a joke.
       I call him “granddad”.

That was funny ;D The usage of "Sir and Madam/Ma'am" is quite
widespread here in India and that's due to the British
influence. Whether the person be a teacher/professor/ senior in
college/elderly person, people use Sir/Madam/Ma'amto address
them. Addressing by name is considered rude and a sign of utmost
disrespect. I know this is not the case in the US and the UK:)
People here use the word "aunty" either to address someone of
his/her mother's age or it can be use to tease someone just like
in your case :P If anyone calls a young girl "aunty", they feel
like they are old and that's the reason they don't like to be
called as Aunty:D And same goes with the boys. If someone calls
them "Uncle", it does the same thing as in case of aunty. Again
this two words are used for people who are quite simple( wear
traditional cloth, don't makeup, the overall appearance is
simple). Then people say, " Ohh, s/he is a bit Uncle/Aunty type"
       ;D

Natasha, I've never met any American woman who is okay with
'madam.' Can you guess why? ;D ::)

I can imagine poor Philippines staff if I tell them something
       like this.
There is a new restaurant manager from Turkey. It’s the first
time as usual Viking Cruises hires European or American
management. He is amazing. I mean good in service and without
       fawning.
