An interesting opinion article published by the Guardian from
the Italian physicist and author Carlo Rovelli.
He says that national identity is a fake created by the powerful
and that we should take into consideration more common values.
He also warns us about the toxic intolerance which is bringing a
       revival of fascist theories.
He is talking about Italy and Great Britain and the implications
       of the Brexit.
National identity is fake. We should focus on the wider common
       good

Yeah, I have a thing for idealists too, BUT: people tend to
identify with the groups they find themselves in. Make an
artificial, even seemingly insignificant division and categorize
people accordingly and you'll have two groups with a sense of
identity based (at least to some extent) on this criterium, no
matter how ridiculous it might turn out under a more careful
scrutiny. Still, you can always do something to displace it a
bit by shifting people's attention to other groups they could
relate to and their respective values. So, I would leave those
nations alone and concentrate on seeing further than the end of
a nation's nose - because this seems to be the problem the world
is having. We have raging nationalism in a globally
interconnected world and this is dangerous. But to say to people
that national identity is a fake - you're setting yourself up
       for failure.

How exactly does the world function if there are no national
identities? What you're really talking about is the extreme and
unworkable idea of a world with no borders between nations. Can
       anyone say anarchy?

Who was arguing about saying “bunch”? Everyone says that about
everything. Like italki is full of bunch of crackpots. Detroit
is full of a bunch of crackheads. You can use it for almost
       anything.

       Neal,
Have you ever met any other” citizens of the world”? I mean
       besides “mine” couple.
I thought that it could be just pathos as I had information how
much they spent. However, it could be there last money and just
craziness. Or perhaps hippie can call themselves “ citizens of
       the world”. Right?

Getting back to the question of citizens of the world, it is a
wonderful concept, brotherly love and all, and it would work and
be great, not needing borders, which we wouldn`t need if there
weren`t right winger Capitalist Republicans to deal with, like
so many we have in the US. Those people just care about money
and taking all they can get from the rest of us. Of course you
need borders to protect yourself from those guys who don`t care
about socialist democracy, humanity and the environment. And
this amounts to at least half the US population. No wonder
everyone wants to leave and we have no tourism.

I think it is more the desire to promote the welfare of the
citizenry we have already, and to have social programs we can
actually afford to pay for without confiscating the wealth of
anyone who makes more than minimum wage.
This whole wild and free immigration thing was not the platform
of the liberal left until very recently, listen to Bill Clinton
       in 1995:
  HTML https://youtu.be/6o18FKvYFUg
As far as I am concerned that eloquently sums it up.
But the liberals in this country have found that by bringing in
illegal immigrants and giving them immediate welfare benefits
they are importing a voting bloc sympathetic to the left. Why
not? They do they same with Unions, especially those that
       service govt contracts.
There is no patriotism or brotherhood in giving the country away
to increase the power and tyranny of Washington.

You have nothing to worry about. You've stated many times that
you are barely scraping by financially. They can't take money
that you don't have. Right? Blood from a turnip, and all that.
No wonder you had to stowaway on a cargo ship to spend a MONTH
in Germany. Now that you're back in The Republik of Kalifornia
you can drop into your usual soup kitchen. I'm sure you ate well
in Germany though. I heard that sausages grow on trees there.
