I mean given the facts: the number of users and the rate of
decline, I would expect it to be dead by now. It has nothing to
do with my wishes, that would be my prediction, my bet.
I believe "should" is the right verb to use - but I guess a
native would be better qualified to judge that.

I think she means 'should have' in the sense of "in most
circumstances, it would have". Small group of people, primary
reason for getting together was being banned by Italki. Hard to
get new recruits as we don't have access to the italki banned
lists. Most small forums in these circumstances would have
closed by now.
I think the one advantage is we were banned because we are
generally speaking more intelligent and articulate. That is one
of the things that brings us together.
I don't regret what you had to do in the most recent case, I
thought it had to be done. I know he was sort of a friend gryz.
I am sorry he took a temp suspension and turned it into
removing himself.
As for the forum, I think of it as a summer romance and intend
to enjoy it for as long as it lasts. Every once in a while they
turn into something big, you know.

I agree! And I recognize I'm guilty as well - my interests are
probably not as varied as I'd like them to be (or as I'd like to
believe).
@Lizzie - you say "Arabian Nights" is interesting, but would you
recommend it? - Update: I've just ordered a used copy, even
though I have strong misgivings about anything written by a
Nobel Prize winner.

form: How on earth do you do that? No, I'm serious, it's a real
question! Have you got enormous screens, or what? I'm sorry if I
sound like a complete luddite, but reading the paper on a
comparatively small screen is something I just cannot imagine
doing. Isn't it one of the joys of reading the paper to stumble
across an article in a section you wouldn't normally look at,
just because a word or a picture catches your attention, and
then to find something really interesting there? Or do you all
read everything there is to read in the paper?

The point is to read as much as you can with one glance. Reading
on paper you have no say - you can't adjust anything. On
e-reader your screen is not large but wide and high enough and
you can adjust the type and the size of the font, the leading
and the margins so that you read as fast/ comfortable as you
possibly can. This is very convenient. So that's why reading on
a device is always better.
Regarding the size of the "page": reading on a phone is often
actually better than reading on PC, because the mobile versions
of the pages are simply cleaner (due to the lack of space for
stupid shit).
So the experience of browsing through the newspaper may not be
as enjoyable but actually reading the article is better on
electronic devices, at least for me. Not to mention the
searching and storing option it gives you.

I favor the old-fashioned news paper myself. For the reasons
Alharacas mentioned. The internet has not all been good. I like
it too, as anyone else, but it`s got a real down-side.
I`ll find the YouTube clip from 1981, which is hilarious, which
said „Someday we might even be reading the newspaper from the
computer. But, it takes 5 minutes to download one page.“
