       Swim trunks)))

Have you ever mentioned that majority of Russian guys wear very
short swimming trunks which actually look as underwear
       www.proswim.ru/product/speedo-plavki-energyblast-placement-digit
       al-brief-7121/
while most men from other countries wear swim shrunks/shorts
       like these:

I have no ideas why but it's so true. Luckily, the situation has
changed a bit recently ...or at least at swimming pools. More
and more Russian men started to wear swimming shorts instead of
       " swimming underwear".
Am I right that this is Russian men' issue?
Do you consider swimming shorts look like underwear are ok?
BTW, I'm also confused when women wear separate swimming suite
in a swimming pool. Sorry if I'm too strict.
Thank you for sharing your opinions.

No, it's definitely not just Russian men. I used to see a lot of
them in Spain as well, worn by Spaniards as well as by German
and British men. BTW, the funniest name I ever heard for those
overly tight, minuscule swim briefs was "canary smuggler".
When you say "separate swimming suite", do you mean a bikini? If
so, do you mean there is a sort of etiquette for where to wear
them (at the seaside, I suppose?) and where not (indoor swimming
pools?)? Do explain it to me, Natalia, will you?

Where I am from, some (not all) guys wear speedos and women wear
(mostly) some micro rags that some dare to call bikinis (they're
tiny! Imagine the smallest swim piece you can... they're ten
       times smaller).

       Susanne,
Perhaps it's about St Petersburg traditions. I mean, people who
was born here and especially if it's not the first generation,
have rather specific attitudes towards many things. Yes, it's
considered to be inappropriate to wear a bikini when you go to a
swimming pools here. Bikini is good for a beach. However, there
are always a lot of women who wear it. St.Pete is the cultural
capital of Russia...but I would add that it's partly gone :(
Globalisation. migration, a lack of culture. I don't want to be
rude or pretend to be ideal but many traditions have been
broken in St Pete but I'm very senstive in terms of a style.
When I was a teenager, my mum taught me that even when the
weather was hot I had to wear tights or otherwise I would have
had a remark. I'm all for broken the rules but not in style
       (tights is exception now :-\)
Yes, I can wear bikini while being in a swiming pool
ocassionally for some reasons ;) but I feel a bit uncomfortable.
I can wear any kind of clothing but I do it only when I'm on
holidays in some countries. I even rarely wear short dresses.
I would like to add some off topic details. When I met my
husband, it was like clash/collision of styles as we had such
different backgrounds. So, when we met his friends, I was
dressed inapproriate and vice versa when we met mine. It was
really funny - me almost always dressed in an elegant dress and
my husband dressed in a sport wear from a local market. It had
been taking years to make us a pair visually. I'm more
democratic nowadays while he is more noble now:)
Other things are hard to explain. For example, when women attend
services or even just come to Russian Orthodox church, they are
supposed to be dressed in female clothing, which is equal or
longer than your knees, and your head should be covered
(preferably with a scarf). Though I always cover my head, I
don't feel bad if I'm dressed in pants/jeans.
So, I can't judge people in swimmings pools, right?!)
Moreover, being all for manners, I can eat by hands in
restaurants... luckily, not everything. My husband had to accept
it as I even didn't want to hear his argumentss. Nowadays, many
people do the same....except when we go to bloated reaturants
but it happens not often. ( "bloated" - I don't know the
correct adjective but I meant very classy and prestigious at the
       same time).
Allie, thank you. Sorry, where are you from? I'm not sure if
you meant micro rings but if yes, it's popular in Russia as
well. My reaction is always the same:)
In general, such relief that not only Russian men wear "
swimming underwear ;)" in a public. I was told in Australia
that Russians can be easily recognised by them. Luckily, it's
       not so obvious ;D

I think that wearing tiny swimsuits for men is really a Russian
fad. It is not a question of socioeconomic status I saw them in
quite different environments. I wonder if they feel more manly
in them. From the hygienical point of view maybe it’s cleaner.
Sometimes teenager hang around in boxers, sit everywhere and
       then jump into the pool.
