The movie was interesting and thought provoking. Shot in black
and white make us feel the spirit of the epoque and helps us to
focus on the personages portrayed, their relations and the music
which is the background of the movie. The music evolves
throughout the film - from folk tunes played by professional
artists, via folk dance performances for the masses, up to jazz
and rock 'n' roll. The impossible relation between the lovers
evolves too, but never becomes simple. Another problem portrayed
is the emigration - is an artist on exile still the man he was
before? And how much can we sacrifice for love?
It's not an example of entertaining movie, so I think that many
members of this forum would enjoy it. I know that Polish cinema
is not very popular outside of our country, but If you will have
an occasion to see this movie - you will be not disappointed...
and maybe you will understand our country a little bit better.

A wonderful recommendation - any chance it is subtitled?

I think it will be available with English subtitles. The movie
is made with French and British co-production and I'm sure it
will be distributed at least in French and English speaking
countries. Anyway the prize for the best director on this year's
Cannes festival should be good recommendation to display the
movie not only in co-producers' countries. I think they hope for
an Oscar nomination (like the previous film by this director -
'Ida').
Now You can see the material from the shooting plan with English
subtitles (including interviews with actors, director and other
crew):

Thank you, Marcin. I also like its soundtrack.
Have you seen “ Loving Vincent”? (Dorota Kobiela and Hugh
Welchman).

Yes. I like 'Loving Vincent', though a few things about this
movie could be a bit better (I've commented it already:

/>But the movie which demanded such an enormous amount of work
can't be perfect.
