       Questions about Pakistan/My city (Karachi).
By: Suliterabaap Date: June 7, 2018, 7:32 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Question 1. National Culture.
The National Culture of Pakistan is very diverse. We have many
ethnic groups all living together as one. Namely, Sindhi's
Balochi's Pathans Punjabis etc. All of them have their own
individual language spoken amongst themselves. I had to learn
Sindhi in school as a subject as i hail from the Sindh province.
But I'm not actually Sindhi myself. I'm Gujrati, who's
forefathers migrated from India at the time of partition. But if
we talk about uniformity, all Pakistanis love being hospitable
to foreigners (If any who come here). They are extremely fond of
tea (I'm not. Never had a cup of tea in my entire life). They
are resilient and hardworking. And oh! Pakistanis love weddings.
They love to have lavish weddings and invite Hundreds of guests
which will never arrive at the appointed time. It is culturally
acceptable to arrive late at weddings in Pakistan. If the invite
says 9PM. Guests will usually flock around at 10.30 PM.
Pakistanis are not calm people, they are very passionate about
friends and family. Celebrations/Dinner Parties/Giving presents
       on occasions are extremely common.
For Natalie. (I knew few Pakistanis at my previous work place
who could read/write/speak Fluent Russian). Blew my mind
       obviously.
       Question 2. National Character.
National Character definitely varies from person to person. From
my experience. Pakistanis are generally open and direct (Lots of
swear words are involved too) (Males only) when it comes to
friends. But around family, it's nothing but respect and
manners. As we wouldn't be caught dead being crude in front of
our parents, if we want a beating of our lifetime.
       Question 3. Fun in Pakistan.
Generally in my city, going to eat at restaurants is big
Pakistani past time. Playing cricket is huge among young people
as it is our national sport. Hanging out with friends, (Male and
Female). If we specifically talk about females, then they love
to shop, we have "Lawn Sales" all year around for different
occasions. For reference this is what a lawn suit looks like.
  HTML http://suitlady.pk/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Auj-lawn-suit.jpg<br
/>. Watching, Pakistani dramas/Turkish Dramas and Indian Dramas.
People generally surf the internet. And some of them are really
       into Photography.
Question 4. Common traits with Middle Eastern Countries and
       Afghanistan.
The only common trait with Middle Eastern countries and Pakistan
is that we share a same religion. Many people have this
pre-conceived notion that Pakistan is in the middle East. It's
not. I'm not Arab, I'm South Asian as Pakistan is a part of Asia
(South Asia). Only reason some of us are Muslims is because, the
Arabs invaded the Sub-continent a few centuries ago and managed
to convert a few Hindus to Muslims and i'm part of that lineage.
I haven't met that many Afghani people in my life. But they
share similarities with the Pushto people of our country. In
       regards to looks and language.
Question 5. Fashion in an Urban city like mine is pretty much
the same as the rest of the world. Jeans, T-shirt, shirts, dress
pants etc. I'm currently wearing a Tee and shorts. Traditional
       clothing include. Kurta Shalwar.
       Image:

/>(It depends on how simplistic or fancy you want to make it)
Sherwani (Commonly worn in weddings) Image:
  HTML https://www.deepakperwani.com/content/images/thumbs/0001707_black-sherwani-kora-dabka-work.jpeg
For Females as i previously mentioned. It's Shalwar Kameez or
       Lawn Suits.
  HTML https://crayon.pk/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Black-Shalwar-Kameez-Designs-for-Girls.jpg<br
       />
Though some girls in the city wear T-shirts/Shirts and Jeans
       well. Quite common in mine.
       Question 6. Standards of beauty.
This is where i'm not sure if i have something positive to say.
Pakistanis are very critical in terms of looks, especially when
it comes to arranged marriage meetings. People are judged from
the color of their skin down to their cellular structure when it
       comes to looks.
Average height for Men (I like measuring in feet sorry) 5.4ft to
       6.2ft.
Average height for Women: 5ft to 5'7ft. Though you can find
women taller than that as well.
Question 7 Education: In Urban cities, Education is quite
formidable upto PHD level. Can't say the same for the rural
parts of the country which is the actual country majority.
Schools aren't that properly established there, thus resulting
in massive illiteracy rates and poverty. And i'm not sure, when
is that ever going to be fixed, because scrummy politicians need
these people to maintain their power in Government.
       Question 8 Safety:
My city, Karachi is very very safe nowadays. Though there are
parts of the city, which you shouldn't visit at night time. And
that goes for any city in the world. Islamabad, the capital of
Pakistan is also very safe. I cannot speak for the rest of the
country, because i haven't visited yet. But if you came to
Karachi. You would feel safe. And i would obviously meet you and
take you to the best places that my city has to offer. :)
       Question 9: Tourists.
Here are the statistics of tourists ranging from different
ethnicities that i've personally seen. (In my own country) From
childhood till today. And only from afar. Never had a
       conversation with any of them.
       White people: 11
       Black people: 4
Asian people: Chinese people 30 to 40. Japanese 1.
Since Pakistan is not considered a place for tourism. And Travel
agencies specifically court tourists to not choose Pakistan as a
place to visit for vacations. Only recently Chinese people have
started visiting my city, due to trade routes being built
between our two countries. So i see them at the local mall all
the time now. If tourists do visit, it's mostly in the
un-inhabited rural areas, where it's nothing but beauty and
nature. So i have no chance to meet them, unless i visit those
       places myself.
       Question 10. Women
In my city, it depends on the family as to how much freedom they
allow their women to flourish into city. In my own family, I
have many female cousins (I'm an only child, so no examples of a
sister) Who are doctors. If i have a medical problem, i go to my
female cousin doctor for a solution. Recently went to get a
routine checkup for my body and the doctors there were also
women. My city has no shortage of female doctors. One of my
cousins is currently studying in MIT university of America in
bio engineering. And another cousin is also in America working
       on her career.
Some of the best teachers in my life were women. Women are
allowed to work in my city on the same footing as men. And on
equal or more pay depending upon Qualifications.
Can't say the same for the rural areas of the country. Where
women are oppressed due to cultural and religious reasons. I
wish for that to change, but we have a long way to go, before an
       actual solution is devised.
Pakistan is one of the first few countries to have a Female
Prime Minister: Benazir Bhutto. Unfortunately she was
assassinated in 2007 (I think) A day before my birthday.
Question 11. I only made American/European friends, in 2015 and
they are the most kindest people that i have ever met in my
life. Even if it's just online, Extremely generous and caring. I
met them through online gaming and they without even me asking
them of anything have gifted me from their own money, so many
video games. And obviously in return, gifted them all back. That
is something that i will always cherish in my life.
Russian people: I have played counter strike on Russian servers,
where there were nothing but Russian people, I have heard them
speak, but never spoke anything in return, as they didn't know
       how to speak English.
I have still to this day, never made a proper Russian friend,
with whom that I've had a conversation with. Maybe that can
change one day. And the only reason is that, no opportunity has
ever risen for me to meet a Russian. But i do hold deep interest
in learning about Russia and maybe visit one day as well. (I
hope i don't face any visa issues).
Videos I will share later. But for now, i think this will
       suffice.

Thanks for the information. I don't know much about Pakistan
unfortunately. It's probably because Pakistan has not been
interested in developing its ties with Iran in recent decades
and has preferred to side with other countries in the region.
However, I remember that once I was checking Pakistan's page on
Wikipedia and I realized that your national anthem has been
composed in a highly Persianized version of the Urdu language. I
could understand every single verse of your national anthem
       without even trying. :)

Here, in Bishkek, are lots of Pakistani students, and men really
       play cricket at universities' yards.

Kingslayer: Just like you couldn't understand our National
Anthem. I have yet to understand Pakistan not developing it's
ties with Iran, even though our native language is half-derived
from Persian itself. Need to look up the reasons why.
Pushy Riot: Interesting to hear, I didn't know Russia had
Pakistani students. Also, do the Russians join in the cricket
fun as well? I hope they do.

Actually, what I said was that I could understand your national
       anthem word by word. xD
Well, the reasons are mainly political. The thing is that
Pakistan does not want to risk its ties with the US over Iran.
It's understandable and Iran doesn't blame Pakistan for that.
Also, Pakistan prefers to side with Saudi Arabia than Iran for
some religious preferences. On the other hand, Iran maintains
good ties with both Pakistan and India. We do understand the
sensitivities that exist between Pakistan and India as neighbors
and we wish to maintain good ties with both of these nations and
help them improve their ties with each other.
There's a street in Tehran named after Iqbal, the Pakistani poet
from Lahoor. I remember we read one of his Persian works in our
high school literature textbook as a tribute to non-Iranian
       poets who have Persian poems.

Bishkek is in Kyrgyzstan a former Soviet republic. They
(Pakistanis) live their own life for a while. When I studied at
university there were three (among 30 native) foreigner students
in our course. One Syrian Arabic, one Syrian Kurdish, and one
Moroccan Arabic. We studied together. I don't know why, but
separated departments with special faculty are arranged for
       Pakistanis.

       Suleman,
       Thank you very much <3
I couldn't expect to have such a full answer ( but had hoped::)
I thought only Nazi could do it :)
Looking forward to watching the video.

Kingslayer. My bad, i misread what you wrote. I understand that
you were able to understand our national anthem. And i see, the
political situation is definitely sensitive and i suppose some
hands are tied on the matter. But i hope one day, Iran and
Pakistan have good diplomatic relations. And amazing to know,
that Allama Iqbal's work is studied in Iran. :O
Pushy Riot: I see now. Well i don't know, whey they would keep
Pakistanis away from the rest of the bunch. :(
Natalie: Well, if i'm asked to talk about anything, i do my best
to completely answer the question in a fulfilling manner and try
my best to not have any loose ends. And you are welcome for the
music. I will share more of music with you and hope you like
       them as well. :)

       Suleman,
Sorry I didn't write at once being in rush.
       1) I'd be happy to provide any information about Russia and
surely we can talk on Skype one day.
Oh, I'm polite again. You see the difference:) So, it's like you
in a family in terms of swearing:)
Besides Pushy Riot and me, Ksenia is Russian here.
       2) Funny tourists statistics:)
       3) Could you some information about your names?
Here is a discussion where we talked about it

Waiting for the evening to read the links you provided.

       Edited my previous answer.
Anton, sorry, I didn't see your comment. It was obvious that
you are Russian. I think :)) or at least in terms of language.
It's not a secret that I'm Russian on my mother's side but
       Ukranian by father's side. I feel I'm 100 % Russian, though it's
not a huge difference between Slavs.
