I don't know any rankings but I would add
[li][s]Udemy [/s](those are not university courses) [/li]
[li]Coursera[/li]
.
However, although I know they offer language classes I haven't
really taken any language courses there. But as learning
platforms they're OK.

I've taken two EdX courses. In both cases, I paid the $50 for
"certification," even though it was completely unnecessary,
because I knew that if I did it, I would feel obligated to
complete the course in order not to have wasted the money.
They were both good. Neither of them came close to being the
equivalent of an actual semester-long three-lectures-a-week
college course. The first one, conducted in English, was:
Introduction to Aerospace Engineering: Astronautics and Human
Spaceflight
I took it mostly because I had gone to high school with the
professor who gave it.
I took the second one as Spanish practice: Sonido Espacial y 3D.
It wasn't that great as a course, but, as I hoped, it was very
good as Spanish practice; the combination of nonfiction
material, making heavy use of technical terms that I knew or
were almost the same in English, and the ability to watch a
synchronized, scrolling transcript of the words next to the
video, were helpful.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Dan. The only course I’ve
finished was IELTS academic and it was great. It’s so true
about paying some for certificate in order to motivate yourself
to apply for study and finish it. I gave up a frw courses, though
they were interesting and well-organized.

I used to love Coursera and took some courses there in the past,
but now they're focusing on online masters and etc and I haven't
found the short/singulars I used to like.
Thanks for all the suggestions

You should also check MIT open courseware, I think. It was
probably the first Ivy League school to tape and upload their
classes.
But as always, the best source for finding video lectures from
good universities is youtube. Nothing beats youtube. And
coursera is no longer any good in my opinion. EdX is better
nowadays. There are also tons of new websites that offer high
quality education resources but the quality of their courses
vary greatly from one course to another.

to react to that! No, don't worry, I'm not offended. But 1) I'm
an MIT alumnus, and 2) MIT is not an "Ivy League" school. I have
a lot more to say about this, it is a really complicated aspect
of US culture and tradition, but I think I'll do it as a post in
Cultural Miscellanea.

You're correct. My bad. I thought it was because it was a
private institution and it was a top US university but it's not.
