Do you put your legs on the desk?

I sometimes see the scene in the movies that someone puts his
legs on the desk when he reads a book or talks on the phone. I
saw Obama did too. Do you often do in your country? Is it just
on TV and movies? I'm just curious. We never do in Japan.

No. I don't trust my chair enough to do that. Or maybe my desk
is too high? And I can't imagine anyone doing that in an office
(unless they are alone and not expecting anybody).

In fact I have seen it in American movies only. I can't remind
me seeing it in any European movie... Maybe our American friends
will explain us - does it really happen? Or it's only the
       stereotype?

I had thought all people did except for Asian because they have
long legs enough to reach the desk. Only Americans? How about
Italian, French, German, British? They look a bit cool to me.
       Am I strange?

It's a power pose. Especially if you put interlock your fingers
behind your head and spread your arms. It was particularly
odious when Obama did it in the Oval Office. It was very
disrespectful. That's an historic desk and presidents normally
show respect for the office of the presidency by not behaving as
if he is in his home relaxing.

       Jerry
Oooh! I didn't know that at all. I had thought all the
presidents did in the past. It was very good to know it! I
       learned. Thank you, Jerry!
EGP is worth posting. <<< Is my English funny? sorry!

Chizuko, Ronald Reagan was famous for saying he would never
consider even entering the Oval Office without wearing a suit,
including his jacket. And as far as I know, he never did.

I see this scene constantly. Only Americans.
I did it once the night before my exams in Finland. The reason
was an uncomfortable table in a lobby and I needed to hold a
laptop. However, there were nobody around.
Interestingly, being strongly against such behaviour, I often
eat some food by hands in restaurants (which is supposed to be
eaten with a knife and fork. Double standards, right?:)
Moreover, many people say that I look elegant. Maybe they just
       love me:)
