The Alphabets at Risk of Extinction

This is the title of an article about alphabets and their
importance, especially with regard to how much they say about
different cultures, and not just by being an artificial part of
a particular language:

This part about Inuit children reminds me of what I learnt about
deaf children:
A study of Inuit children educated in the Inuktitut script, for
example, found that they could solve complex mental problems by
second grade. Meanwhile, Inuit students taught in English or
French were already falling behind their non-Inuit classmates.
Some people believe that the quickest way to teach a child a new
language is to stop them from using whatever they use at home.
Deaf children used to be deprived of sign language in order to
"acquire" the unacquirable, a spoken language they couldn't
hear, until somebody realised that by letting them use a
language they understand, they are increasing their chance of
learning other languages in the future, even ones they can't
hear. Letting children learn the alphabet of their first
language seems to have a similar effect.
In this video about the Endangered Alphabets Atlas, it is
explained that it only takes two generations of disuse for a
script to become incomprehensible to its own culture. If you
listen from around 1:55, you'll hear about what follows when
this happens. Essentially, the culture is doomed.
