Great Quote. But, what does it mean?

I heard that Winston Churchill said this but never could confirm
it. It’s a great quote, but what does it really mean?
“Never give up on something you can’t go a day without thinking
       about.”

I put this quote on italki and got a few good answers. Some
think it was just a joke of Winston Churchill’s drinking and
smoking habits, but that’s too banal an interpretation in my
opinion. It has an eerily fascinating connotation to it that is
hard to identify, but I find it deeply moving and use it now all
       the time.

I don't think the person who wrote that comment thought it was
all there was to it, they were probably joking. I was going to
say be careful if you're someone who tends to obsess about
various things. On second thoughts, maybe this is the way to go
because if you can't stop thinking about something, the only way
out of it is to actually do it.
In any case, I think Churchill would be impressed that somebody
managed to apply this approach to the quote itself :D

I think it’s an interesting quote. More to it than meets the
       eye.
