When truth is stranger than fiction: the bizarre practice of Dr.
John R Brown....
By: SHL Date: December 20, 2019, 6:13 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
I debated, mentally, about not posting this as some might find
the story disturbing. But, then I thought if it’s a bit much,
you can always just disregard it.
As background, I first learned of this bizarre tale some 20
years ago when I was conducting legal research in some published
appellate court cases in California. At the time, I thought the
story was one of the most bizarre I had ever read but, as they
say, truth is stranger than fiction. And maybe for that reason I
find true stories generally more interesting.
I had forgotten about the story for two decades until about a
year ago when I did a google search and found this article,
which appeared in 1999. The paper in which it appeared won 3
journalistic awards for the article and its author won first
place in „Feature Story Competition.“ I can see why. The article
is quite well-written. Serious, at times almost funny, and at
the same time shocking.
I found after the first few paragraphs it was hard not to read
through the tale through to its conclusion. I’m not sure why,
but it seems like where I live, California, we have put out some
pretty strange people.
It’s not for the faint-at-heart, but if curious, have a look.

Wow, what a character. I'm surprised there hasn't been a movie
about him yet.

I am surprised too, Nikola, because there seems to be enough
there for a movie. The article only references a short „Inside
Edition“ TV piece on the story entitled „The Worst Doctor in
America“, which probably aired 15 or more years ago.
Unfortunately I can’t find the Inside Edition piece on YouTube
or elsewhere. But, I did find the article well-written and
interesting. Glad you took a look at it. :)

A link under a YouTube video took me to sacreddebris.com. The
documentary isn't there but you can find Brown-related articles
including videos from the old tapes there. I can only tell by
the search results because you have to register in order to see
the content. Just thought I'd mention it in case somebody wanted
a real Christmas treat.
