The visit of the marquis: women’s period
By: Aliph Date: December 18, 2019, 6:31 am

Currently I am reading an Italian novel and found a funny
expression that I had forgotten : “il marchese”, literally it
means the marquis, i.e. a nobleman ranking above a count and
below a duke.
Girls in Italy usually have their menarche around the age of
twelve and they used to call their monthly periods “the visit of
the marquis” or simply « the marquis ».
Do you have similar colorful euphemisms in your language to talk
about menstruations?

In Czech, the word for both month and the moon is měsíc.
Měsíček is a small cute moon. We call it
měsíčky so it means having small cute moons.
